This sucks....

Wouldn't use a bent housing either... I'm using one right now in the MJ, but the inner Cs were the only bent part so I took out the 4lb sledge and straightened them in a couple of minutes. I paid $120 for a pair of d30s, one bent, one straight but rotted, with full steering and brakes and shafts on them, been slowly using it all as spare parts.

Your housing is fine, and a carrier can be had at the junkyard for far less than $40. And yeah, this is a pretty common failure on d30s.
 
A new axle, complete, just bolt it in.

it ain't cheap, but it is easy.

Sounds like a few women I've known :party1: But as far as it goes, yeah that would be a damn good route if money were no object. Let's face it, we own XJs because we (some of us, I guess) *want* to build with less funds. That's not always how it works though...

Very true. This hobby is too expensive even with an xj, let alone some high dollar rig.
