Has anyone used these parts to gain any power? Do they really work?

Have you used a combo/either or, of them to get the best performance?

Ill have the head off, and plan to do some port work to it and the intake, possibly some polishing of the chambers also.

Eli, I own the first one in the Stage 2 form (with Flowkooler waterpump, 180 degree t-stat and 92 octane)...and have sold both the Jet and the Edge. The purists here will say they're 'worthless', but it's all in what you're expecting out of them. Are they phenomenal for the money? Not really, but if you've got the cash and you're looking for all you can get, they work. Intake and exhaust will be necessary with either because they need to breathe. I never had an issue with a Trailjammer not working, but the Jet modules either work or they don't. For the various trucks I sold them for, I had a few that were bad out of the box. Hypertech programmers in Jeeps (in my experience) were so horrible, for example, we stopped selling them. My rig originally had a Hypertech program, but was scrapped because it kept getting a CEL and stumbling the engine.

I dunno, if you wanna do the Trailjammer, I think it's fine for what you get. Take the price of the Jet module and add it to either a Rubicon Express throttle body or one of the other aftermarket ones. It all seems to even out price-wise. I just took my stock throttle body and 'bored' out the bump in it. Didn't open it any more or put a different plate in it, just took the bump out and got a little better response. Again, the purists are going to scream with the numbers and all...but it's all in what you expect and what you can afford. As for the cam, I'd call Edge and talk to them about what you're wanting to build. Their CS folks have direct access to the engineers, so I'm 99.9% certain you can get some reliable info from them. They should be able to tell you whether you'd be wasting your time with the cam and/or their module.

If you get the thing built and are set up to run the Stage 2 Jet, you're welcome to plug mine in and see if it meets your expectations. I notice it immediately when I plug it in.

Hmmm...

Ive always thought and heard these chips and programmers(less diesels) are perty much worthless. Just was wondering if they helped moreso with other engine mods, over a stock 4.0L.

I just dont have any hands on experience with them.

I guess ill just stick to doing the port work, the 2001 intake manifold, some sort of cold air, and exhaust for now.

Save some coin for a 4.6, LSx, or something.

Couldn't tell ya. :( The only guy I know with any real 'raped ape' power out of a 4.0L is a dude with a LOT of coin into a stroker with a turbo. It was retarded expensive and IMHO not worth it. I have zero clue what he's running for programs, though.

I think that'd be your best bet if you're looking for real good power. I know another guy who was about to do the stroker route in his TJ until he really started looking at the numbers. He ended up with a LS1 5.7L, IIRC. Got him just what he was looking for without being a ridiculous swap.

Most people will agree that edge products are woefully overpriced, and their hp claims are unrealistic. That money could be spent in much better ways (a downpayment towards a low-buck stroker for instance).

Re Jetchips: For every one person you find happy with their jetchip, you'll find several more that tell you they didn't feel any discernable improvement.. I'm one of them. My stage 1 chip was useless garbage. Stage 2 won't be much better.... I mean who wants to switch to premium gas for a measly 10hp (assuming you even get that much)

Thanks...I know it took a lot to say all that. :D

And yeah, I like my Stage 2. I run premium in every tank and haven't looked back. ;)

oh i'll be running premium soon too, but it won't be for 10hp ;)

but back-to-topic. I swear, if I knew how to rebuild motors myself I would go the stroker route, and I wouldn't look back. I've seen 4.5L kits for 1k. Heck, I spent a hellovallot more on my mods than 1k, and my Jeep's still slow.

Yeah don't get me wrong...if that chip hadn't come with the rig I wouldn't buy one. :D

Freak deal with the head gasket in the original engine this one had, so it ended up replaced with a 4.0L from a TJ (little higher output) that had less than 35k miles or thereabouts. if I ever get to the point where this engine needs to be rebuilt, I'll either do a stroker or just swap all the junk to a later model XJ. :D

The only Mopar cam worth getting was the 30ab, and its been discontinued. Other cam companies have similar grinds for less. I got an Isky cam for my stroker that has slightly better intake numbers and more-than-slightly better number for the exhaust side. Only $156 shipped.
