the ultamate front axle??

I can't say whether this is true or not. I do know that the spindles & knuckles on a 3/4T D44 are much larger than the 1/2T stuff.

Well, FWIW (and one of those mysteries of axle hardware), the 8-lug spindle from a Chevy 3/4T D44 bolts right in place of the 6-lug spindle from a J-truck D44, without having to swap the knuckle out. However the Ford one going from 5-lug to 8-lug gains another stud for the spindle so obviously that doesn't work.

i herd the 5 lug external locking hubs flex more then the 8 lug which is inside the rotor causing more breakage?

Are you sure you mean external locking hubs? Any of the Warn style you'll typically see (and the Ford automatics that they usually replace) are all internal. External ones are stupid and are the main reason why my Dodge 60 has drive flanges, because the external hubs are mad weak yo.

All of our group are running the 5 lug ford internal locking hubs. Most of us have lost more than a few & are on first name buddy basis with the local 4wp couter guy who hides a special stash of hubs in the back just for us... All except Happy Feet Dave who seems to have the magical unbreakable hubs, yet he's still blowing a load on a pretty 609 front end. If he hasn't sold that front 44 yet than you guys should start lining up. That thing has been beat on & has been proven to hold up to 37's & deep rocks.

He must have the limited-edition drive slugs made from unobtainium then.

Nope, just warn hubs. When I broke the one I changed the other side as well since it would no longer turn to free wheel. They get beat up sticking out so much. That's why the new axle has unit bearings
Did I forget to post a pic here ? Just can't get enough of these now.

Isn't dana 60 stuff great? :sunshine: Gives me a whole new level of confidence for those front-digs I've been dying to do ever since I got the twin-stick case and cutting brakes.

I don't quite have the pimp factor because I'm running antiquated spindle-and-hub tech. But this is the next-best thing I suppose.

yes, it's been cleaned, see pic of complete axle posted earlier)

What, advertising for Coca Cola now?

Let me be the first one to hop off the bandwagon, and say, how about Landcruiser FJ80 axles?

High-pinion, factory electric locker, tie rod behind knuckles, 64" WMS, mammoth brakes, swap-out thirds, and Toyota ground clearance!

I may have my hands on a set, any opinions on these?

Passenger drop is only a sawzall away!

Don't let that dissuade you from using a pass. drop axle, you can still fit the seat in there just fine, and it leaves a big area next to the trans on the driver's side to run the upper link for a 3-link suspension. :)

Yes, same as with most, if not all, Eastern stuff. The rearend, on the other hand, might lead to some issues - the diff is offset a fair amount to the passenger side.

(Super neat for a mid-engine, transaxle-setup'd buggy, but that's a whole other story... :D)

How offset is it? Is it little enough that you could possibly cut down the drivers side tube and run passenger's side shafts on both sides?

or just call Diamond and buy a $400 axle housing and run IFS toyota rear axles...
