The Official CraigsList Thread...

Hey darky are you sure it has the 390 in it? Mine had the 360 truck motor.73 F250 camper spec.

It could go either way, they had both.

The only difference between the two is the stroke (huh huh), otherwise they're identical. In fact the only way to be 100% sure you have a 390 vs. a 360 is to measure (easiest way is with a dowel and a spark plug wrench). The 390 is generally a bit more of a get up and go motor while the 360 is designed as puller.

Yea mine was a tug boat, i could pull a house with the darn thing. My 360 died with 236 thou on it.Lost #6 on low end.So i went thru it.My dad got it brand new in 73 and it was towing trailers all it life.

I was told 390. Don't know if the manifolds are different, but I ordered the intake for a 390, and it fits. :)

Darky, look again at the NEW smog LAWS.they now smog diesels son.they are talking about having folks smog them when they sale them now too, with no cut off date with them for now.

Last I heard, they were only smogging 97+ under 10k lb GVWR. Did they change it again?

My friend did his 95 last month, so i think they did. I would check on it before you jump. You can always buy a wrecked truck and change it to your old ford.

They are pulling over ford pickups and chevys all the time by my work and sniff testing them right on the side of the road. And at the last job i had at the Ford dealer we were smoging a ton of F250 and F350's

Currently, smog inspections are required for all vehicles except diesel powered vehicles manufactured prior to 1998 or with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVWR) of more than 14,000 lbs, electric, natural gas powered vehicles over 14,000 lbs, hybrids, motorcycles, trailers, or gasoline powered vehicles 1975 and older.
