THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

no old man knocks here, even though i plan on staying on LI i'm moving to a less populated, more isolated area.

What I like about VT/ME/western mass: move to a less populated, more isolated area, take zeros off the price
What I don't like about LI: move to a less populated, more isolated area, add zeros to the price

I would say something about the SAFE act as well but it is estimated that less than 1% of weapons that fall under it were actually registered, everyone else went with "come and take." So there's that I guess.

not necessarily. in some cases, yes, like if you move to a "desirable" area. there are much more expensive places to live (both COL and home prices) in places that are more populated than not. the real cost raising factor is if you have more land, which raises your taxes.

i'm planning on moving about 20-40 minutes further east. you get a lot more for your money.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So some of the guys from Rocktoberfest invited me to go to AOAA June 21st...

I have the entire week of NACfest off. I COULD go wheel with them that weekend and then head back to RC for NACfest.

I'm just not sure what I'd do for the Monday/Tuesday that neither event is going on.

Provided I haven't moved to Pitt yet (interviewed yesterday), I'm only an hour from AOAA and am off those days. There's a lot of good hikes and whatnot in the area.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm actually even less than that to anything I'd ever need, both to food/restaurants, hardware, premium outlets, etc. I'm kinda in a no-man's land between a few state highways where due to zoning and county/state land designations there's never going to be any new construction. So I get to be 'in the middle of nowhere' while actually being in the middle of a lot of things.

Yup. That whole 101A strip has hardware stores, appliance/plumbing outlets, 24hr walmart, etc.

What about the 22nd:dunno:

I totally forgot about that

Go to Hershey, and go to Lancaster to look at Amish people?

Leave your trailer at RC, come crash at my place and work on my rig while I go to my normal job, and make a side trip to LII?

Not too far out of the way to go camp at the Water Gap or someplace.

We're gonna be busy as shit the next month or so at work but if you did wanna do something like that I can see what sorta extra time I can take off.

I forgot I'm going to Epping with Rob on the 22nd for the NHRA drags which should be awesome.

I could drive down Monday and take a day trip to LII or something, but I'd have to talk Kate into it. I'm picking her up today from her parent's as she went into town yesterday to watch her two friends run the marathon.

I am so not helping Mark next time he has to move :D
Hell, I'm not helping my roommate move that damn sofa come time to move out.

Just curious Mark, what do you like to do in the city that only ever happens there that makes living in or nearby worth it?

Honest question, no sarcasm, because after going to school there for 4 years there was never really anything going on that made me want to live there. But I obviously couldn't have known about everything.
I guess if you base your life around bars and comedians or music then it makes sense.
Its not necessarily that I'm basing my life on bars or comedians/music, but I'm trying to base my life on being social. I've had enough of the sitting alone in the garage wasting the weekend at this time in my life.

There is a ton of different things to do in the city which makes it nice to have options, and the hours that they are opened until make it so much more convenient. I went home one break while I was in school, latest movie started at 9pm. 12:30am-1am you can still get a movie in Boston.

But there are bars to go out to if you don't want to sit around, markets to go to, many different music venues (you can get big name bands in places like Worcester, but most of the smaller indie bands play in Allston and its great), museums, etc,

Bored, you can walk around any time you want and just explore. Not the easiest to walk around in the middle of the woods at 10pm at night. One of my favorite things I did when I was still at NEU was an all night adventure through the city that brought us to a 24hr diner and 24hr pastry place in the North End.

The city is just alive, there are people around and sometimes its nice to get out there and experience it.

Yup. Having a garage for the toys, truck, trailer, guns (hopefully soon) kills any desire to live in a city.

We're only about 10 minutes from a shitload of bars/restaurants/fast food on 101A. I have a feeling it would take a least that long to walk/ride the T to your nearest spot anyway (it did when I was visiting friends).

I also usually don't drink to get hammered at a bar. Way too much $$$.

Yes, having a garage is nice, that is a downside of being in the city. There are definitely things that make it harder (like parking come snow time), but there are also things that make it nice.

And just to clarify my statement early, ALL guns are not banned in Boston. Boston has its own weapons ban, which bans stuff like AR's, and a few other big/awesome rifles.

different strokes for different folks.
This is true.

Although I wouldn't quite say LI is a city, it actually reminded me too much of Florida.

Did you live in the city when you were in school or commute?
I commuted from Stoughton.

I spent several nights at my friend's dorms when we would go out drinking at a bar/club or something, but that's about it.
I agree, commuting into and living in are completely different and don't really equate.

I'd argue that living there is a totally different experience. Nice to be able to park somewhere on a Friday and not have to get in my car to do anything until work on Monday if I wanted to. Everything I need is within walking distance, and I only have to drive somewhere if I want to. That convinience alone is worth a bunch. Nice to be able to go grab dinner/beers at a wide variety of places within walking distance or a short ride on the T, and not have to worry about driving back. Everything comes TO Boston too- music, comedians, sports, etc. I've lived in cities in other areas in the past few years (Syracuse, Manchester, New Haven, Burlington, VT) and they just didn't have the same qualities or feel.

This is true.

Living near a city, much less *in* one, would drive me insane in very short order. That kinda life has zero appeal to me.

I wanted to go to Syracuse and be in the middle of no where when I was looking at schools. I had never considered living in a city let alone Boston. Then I looked at Northeastern and wouldn't have gone anywhere else if I were to do it again.

I think that's what it comes down to. Some people want to live in that atmosphere of the city always being alive.

I don't mind going to visit once in a while, but just couldn't stand to live in that.

I socialize plenty (at least for me) while not in the city, but I'm also more of an introvert anyway.

And I would never compare commuting into Boston to living there, Dave just asked which I did.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Pizza station is so ****ing boring, can't wait to get the **** out ta here

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'd definitely rather explore some woods at 10 PM than walk around a city.

knoxville greyhoud station @ 5:30 AM.

propositioned by a crackhead within five minutes of getting off the bus.

man, I like living in the country

plus I can carry a firearm in the woods, greyhound bus is prohibited by the federal law :(

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Damn that is a gnarly LCA angle.

Yeah the 5150s in my old XJ made it ride like a caddy.

Plans for drop brackets or long arm?

1-1 1/2" front stretch short term
mid-arm 3 link in the future

Pulling the bed and fuel tank when I get home from work. Funnnnnnnn. If I fish plate it and bolt it will there be a problem?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

all the cool kids are running flipped dually wheels in FL. Even flo-rida himself.

I recently built another AR out of an 80% lower and stripped upper that I made specifically for long range/coyote hunting . It's got a 24" 1:7 bull barrel. Finally got to shoot it yesterday and it's like cheating. My mom, who is not a very good shot, went 3 for 3 on clay pigeons at 100 yards. With nothing-special 55gr ammo, I had no problem making 1" groups. Can't wait to see what I can do with 77gr in reloads tailored to the gun.

I built one a few months back too. Aero lower, Windham Weaponry parts, free float handguards, yankee hill barrel, troy sight and an Ace carbine length skeleton stock. I wanted it to be light and simple, and I liked building a gun knowing all the parts were made in America. It'll get an aimpoint when my prostitution business picks up again.
