Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread
This is probably going to be a nerdy post. I'm trying to finalize the steering for the new rig. It's a mind****.
I have 4 components that rotate (two knuckles, pitman arm, idler arm), in 3 different planes, 2 of the arcs oppose each other, one of those planes is perpendicular to the others, and I'm trying to find the happy medium where everything plays nice but I don't cheat myself out of too much steering angle.
Problem is everything works great for the middle ~75% of steering range. Once all the arcs start really diverging from each other shit goes weird in a hurry. (the rate of angular change between the tangential force vectors increases exponentially

)
Part of me wants to draw it up on graph paper, bust out a compass, and start plotting arcs and intersection points.
The part of me that's actually gonna do the work, is probably just gonna get back to it tomorrow and just keep adjusting crap until it all kinda reaches a good compromise.
Probably a good thing to not have it steer all the way to the stops on the knuckles as well, because then if there's a little bit of bumpsteer at the extremities, the steering won't act as the limiting point and make the steering wheel go nuts.
Fun
edit: and that's not even including the hydro assist ram, which I haven't looked at yet, which will add a (mostly) linear component to this whole mess...
edit2: the newest Black Sabbath album kicks ass btw. That'll be in my garage stereo for a while.
