THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yea ls's are too mainstream

Put it another way.

Let's put less than $6k on the table, for a 500 HP aluminum block V8, with a factory warranty, in-stock at any dealership involved in the motorsports program, that comes with headers and a standalone electronics package (including gas pedal) that only requires fuel hookup & +/-12 to run in anything you can mount it to, and will rev to the moon all day long and ask for more while getting 2x the fuel economy of similarly-powered pushrod motors.

How's your harness coming along?

wait $6000 for 500 horsepower of aluminum goodness ready to go?

why don't more people do this and why are you the only one ive heard this from?

Yeah that thing is pretty badass. It didn't start at 500HP though did it? Don't they start at like 412 HP or something? Doesn't he have a ton of time into tuning that thing? Not that there's anything wrong with that, you have to tune everything. Either way that is an insane deal and the thing rips and sounds awesome.

Just because I'm a brand loyal tard, I'd spend $5k on a 425HP 6.1 Hemi right from Mopar. But that does only give you the factory harness. I'd have to Megasquirt it, which would bring me to $6k.

Ginger beer isn't beer, it's soda. To spicey for me. My &f would mix it with captain morgan.

Crabies is ginger beer that contains Alcohol.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yea. I'm still at a fraction of the price anyway. 4 grand will go a long way with the rest of my rig.

on another note. was thinking about getting another ecm. tune one for sick power and tune the other for sick fuel economy. just mount them next to each other and plug whatever one in I want depending on what I'm doing.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i got a piston from Matt Hagans Nitro funny car, i figure after a few more visits to epping ill have a complete motor

You can't tune for both?

Not sure how the GM ECMs are, but as far as MS, your fuel table is based off the MAP sensor and RPM. When you're cruising around, you have higher vacuum and are usually between 2000-3000 RPM. You can just tune that table to go as lean as you want (without tip-in or bucking issues) and keep the rest of the table fine.

I don't see the need for two ECMs but that's just me. It's not like you want to pull fuel across the board. If you want fuel economy, you're not going to be hammering on it all the time when the computer is commanding a shitload of fuel.

Because all the cool kids run GM products. It's a lot less crowded outside the box.

Probably 4 or 5 dyno sessions at this point (with the first one being mostly to fix idiotness with the throttle body). And the last two to dial in more driveability and economy. But, that also means that the hard part's been done already, and going forward we know what needs to be done to be effective in these cars.

And $6k is if you buy it from a catalog without knowing anybody. ;)

Because most people would rather drop around $2k for an LS/harness/etc. and have around 350-400HP.

You're not doing an LS for $2k. Iron block, maybe. Just checking going rates for a turnkey used motor:

COMPLETE TURNKEY ENGINES
generally 80 -120k miles - Sometimes less at a premium price!
4.8L ---------------------- starting at $1995.00

5.3L LM7 ------------------ starting at $2400.00
5.3L LM7 w/ Z06 Cam ------ starting at $3100.00

6.0L LQ4 ------------------- starting at $3200.00
6.0L LQ4 w/Z06 Cam ------- starting at $3900.00
6.0L LQ9 ------------------- starting at $4200.00

The modded LQ4 is around 385-400HP at the crank.

Damn that's not bad at all. Nailing 500HP in 4-5 dyno sessions from 412 is like nothing.

:dunno: I don't know anyone that works at a Mopar dealership.

The only thing that's lame is the Mopar engines are fairly heavy. I remember reading the 6.1 weighed in around 600 lbs. Not sure I believe that though.

I'd just throw aluminum heads on my 440 at that point. Be close to the same weight and more power for less money (at least for me).

You wouldn't run a JY engine? I'd have no problem buying an LQ4 for around $800 and getting the harness and all that done. You don't think it's possible for under $2k? I guess $3k is more reasonable?

just going by what I read on the internets. maybe I need to talk to some different tuning dudes.

between my motor, everything bolted to it, flywheel and clutch stuff, and the tune and rework Im well under 2 grand.

not counting cooling system, intake ,exhaust, fuel system, etc, but you gotta do all that to the other motors anyway.

If we're talking about brand loyal stupidity and lots of money I'd go for a viper V10, you know, the one that makes 800hp and costs 40k. Why? Because it'll Just Work with a late model XJ instrument panel :dunce:

And then I'd hit the pedal once, sprout a giant boner, and twist an MJ up into a ball of crumpled sheetmetal all in a fraction of a second.

Meant for the Ford motor.

The 5.0 is 444 lbs ready to rock. LS are a little heavier and LM/LQ moreso.

Not for an LS (aluminum block). Sure you could probably do a junkyard iron block and harness for $2k, if that's what you were looking for. Lots of people have success with that package.

At the same time, if you were able to find a wrecked Coyote and felt like pulling the motor yourself and weeding through a factory harness, it'd probably be less than $5-6k too.

I'd say it *might* be a wash cost-wise at the end of the day if I were to do an equivalent LS, but I like the electronics, powerband, and overall design of the Coyote a lot better. Plus a factory warranty is pretty cool.

LS motors carry a pretty good market premium because they're "sexy".

you can get one out of a wrecked car for sub 10k,

Which is doin' pretty good cost-wise, compared to a lot of people. But it's also a motor with unknown history and possible dead/dying cylinder.

The used ones I posted are complete w/the harness but also run-tested and guaranteed by the seller. For how long and under what conditions, I dunno. Maybe just against DOA. It's still a 100k junkyard motor.

Crate, factory-warrantied, puts a whole new paintjob on things. You're putting a premium on time & confidence at that point and it depends on what the project & use is if it makes sense or not.

What I'd *really* like to do is a Cobra replica with a Coyote 5.0, which I've so far priced out to around $45-50k. Not happening anytime soon.

shutup and don't remind me. with a fresh battery its less apparent. worst case scenario Ill just pull it apart and make it go faster while im in there.
