THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

from gm or amc?

the only stock radiator that will bolt into my rig is the 6 cylinder radiator (v8 is too wide, and the front clip area will need to be chopped up) chevy radiator definitely wont fit.

as for fans 03 came with a mechanican fan, which I would have to make a shroud for. or just get some electric fans, which im having my ecm and wiring harness modified for.

GM is what I was thinking. Which dimension doesn't fit?

I'd probably just figure out the biggest thing you can squeeze in there and try to find some sort of OEM application that sorta matches it. If you were racing it, it might be worth trying to find something a little more exotic & expensive but for your use & HP I doubt it needs to be anything fancy.

Width, the opening I have to work with is pretty narrow. I was thinking of going with an all aluminum radiator and some later model gm electric fans. still haven't done much homework in that department.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Does anyone here have good info on u joint load handling specs? (besides the PBB bible) I need something bigger than a 1410 or 1480 series. 540 ft-lb continuous duty, sub 100 rpm, sub 5 deg deflection, occaisonal use. 1480 series are rated to 2k ft-lbs for short duty and 336 continuous, but I'm hoping to get something that meets 540 continuous...

PDF page 5 should cover you I think. Pages after that give info on how to derate based on RPMs, loads, etc etc.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Well I guess I found my problem from yesterday

I'm hoping I can get that piece that's wedged in there free, then pull what's left of the pins with it still in the Jeep, because I really don't want to strip the front end apart again. The only thing that worries me is I can't find the other half of the fourth pin...

any thing else look chewed up or did you catch it in time

I was gonna say that my company has a U-joint division, but then I went and looked into it a little further and our smallest is 2000+ ft-lbs continuous. Oops!

1550 or 1610 is probably gonna be your huckleberry; that's just outside the automotive/light truck catalog and into the commercial/medium duty series.

Automotive stuff is so pussyish.

edit: we do have a smaller series:

http://www.altraliterature.com/pdfs/P-1750-APT LR.pdf

but they're only listed as assembled shafts. I might be able to find more info on the individual u-joints if you want to go a route other than Spicer.

Anyone think that a piece of 2x2x3/16 box tube is to much for a tie rod?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

That song has been all over the radio, where have you been!?

Also focus's are bad luck. Checked out the one here. Runs and drives awesome, popped out most of the big dent and all that was wrong is it smoked. So it looked like it was from the valve cover but it looks like someone already did it so all I did was wash off the oil and it looked like it was good. Took it for a spin and it's pretty nice. Took in the shop to adjust the rear brakes and left it running on the lift and something in the cooling system popped. Coolant everywhere and it was pegging the heat gauge.

:dunno: that doesn't sound too bad...

Since getting Spencer, I did the initial work we knew it needed, which was no big deal ( front brakes, a coil, valve cover gasket, a tire, etc) and in the couple months since, I've done the clutch, slave cylinder, timing belt, water pump, tie rod end, another tire, slave cylinder........again, timing belt......again. Yeah. This car blows

p.s. I think the fuel pump is on its way out

Timing belt twice?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i want ac. does anyone know if this would be a good idea. from what i understand is accumulator and condenser are the usually culprits. im contemplating on buying a brand new one of each nad an o ring kit(80 bucks for all), then bringing it to a shop to get it vacuumed and filled. should that get me a working system? id feel like an ass bringing it in as is, and having them diagnose it. Then doing the repairs myself and bringing it back for filling, or is that fair? but if i do the accumulator and condenser and its something else wrong with the system then im back to sqare one and getting it diagnosed.

The evap coil in the dash is a common culprit from what I've read, and you have to pull the entire dash to get to it. I'd do it myself and then have it vacuumed and filled.

First though... I'd stuff a can of freon in it (I think you already did) and then add some leak detection dye to find out exactly where the leak is. If you can't find the leak, it's probably the evap core and it's leaking into the HVAC box.

No real "being an asshole" about fixing it and having it vacuumed and filled, in fact if I was the shop I'd love it if someone did that to me. Book time (iirc) on an evap core is like 10 hours and involves tearing apart the dash and a lot of annoyance. On the other hand, a lot of shops charge like a hundred bucks or more for a vac/refill and it takes 20 bucks in freon, 15-20 minutes, and is a guaranteed smoke break while you watch the gauges on the machine. All the guys at the quicklube I worked for used to love freon jobs, I didn't get commission and didn't smoke so I let em do it.

Timing belt twice?

yep. Just did the second one last night. Scary because I was hoping to find out one of the new idlers let go, bad bearing, whatever, but when I pulled it all apart, they all seemed fine. So I have no idea why/how it shredded, but it did. So I warrantied the belt and all the pulleys in the component kit and I'm currently crossing fingers that it doesn't let go again somehow.

on the "bright" side...it's an interference motor, but when it let go it managed to not bend any valves. Compression test checked out ok so I got "lucky" there I guess

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Thanks Ken and Chris. I got my peepee slapped for too much interwebbing at work so now I only come to NAXJA while clocked out for lunch just to not give them a reason to yell at me. So even though I knew pbb would have info, I avoided it. I'll email myself those pdf's and that'll do.
