Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread
The wood is surprisingly a very good insulator. I would need to look up numbers, but with how many log homes there are that don't use extra insulation, it can't be that bad.i image that just heating it would cost a good amount more in the winter if you want to keep the wood exposed on the inside for looks
That's a good point. Like you say, it will have its quirks and if you are willing to put up with them it's not a big deal. I just don't think I'd be willing haha. It's like anything else (Jeeps, for instance). If you have passion for it you're willing to overlook the drawbacks/headaches. I have a little colonial right now that's almost 300 years old. She has her quirks, but it's a great place.
A lot are, and a lot aren't. Gotta find the good ones.with a victorian or other really old house if it is structurally good are ok, but once you have to do work that can be interesting 100+ years of building code changes and peoples skills for home building
im not a huge fan of most modern construction because you find a lot from '50s, '60s, '90s, and '00 and they are all just quickly tossed up with little care because they need to keep the assembly line move while turning the biggest profit
