THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Anyone know of a decent CAD app that won't cost me a billion dollars?

SolidWorks is too expensive. By about four figures.
AutoCAD is WAY too expensive. By more figures than I can count.
Google Sketchup is like fingerpainting for downs syndrome sufferers.
All the free online ones I've tried have been either useless or extremely frustrating to use. Or both.
FreeCAD is for dweebs with neckbeards who don't actually have any idea what a CAD app is, apparently. I'm sorry that I wasted my bandwidth and time downloading and installing it.

Any others I managed to miss?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I think you're underestimating google sketch up

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I think google sketchup was designed and written by a passel of retards and is a giant piece of shit. I spent a few hours screwing around with it and it was more like barbies first interior design app than a serious CAD app you can actually use to design something. Maybe I wasn't using it right, I'm used to real CAD programs but don't really feel like dropping 4 grand on a solidworks license.

Why? It was designed to be simple and you're not going to be able to design some complex machine on it, but it does a lot. For stuff like most of the people on here post it's a thousand times better than paint. There's a tool that automatically scales your part to a picture you bring in(like when everyone tries to draw a cage, bumper or whatever stupid part in paint) it's awesome for stuff like that. It actually does do drawings and stuff like that too, in the paid version. It's a hell of a lot quicker than solidworks too. I doubt you would even use 10% of the functionality a full feature CAD program has to offer, not that I even know what you're doing.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

you forgot PRO E but that's even more expensive than the ones you list.

My question to you: is there a reason this has to be legit? What about a student lic for Solidworks or something?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I guess it's because I'm not enough of a butt gargler and my hillclimbs are too sick

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I used to have what ever auto cad was befor it was "auto" cad. but I lost the disk. I got if from one of my teachers in HS when I took a cad class. came with the school "as many comps as you want" license too.

but I lost it somehow. I really wish I still had it.

oh it was visual cad.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Lol thanks guys. I'll check underneath tomorrow and see what I can see.

And Ken, my wife is from Hudson, although I would hate to be stranded there.

What Bill said, you are treading in dangerous waters. Talk like yours has the potential to make a non-geek like myself to die from head explosion.

Good point, I forget this can be watched by anyone sometimes.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'd love to design a full buggy similar to how that dude on Pirate is doing his budget ifs/irs rig.

Set all the parts on a 4x8 template and send them off to a laser cutter or something.

Bam, LEGO buggy

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Id wheel a lego crawler, or k-nex.

Anyway, colin, remember that short course racetrack we were supposed to cut by my way. I was invited there on sunday to go wheeling. Didn't go because my jeep is gay. I just saw pictures of some awesome rocks. Yj buggy on 49s, propane powered 350 right?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Oh, forgot the point of my post.

What happened to that? And the rocks looked like fun.

Yup, that's Eugene's place. It's a YJ buggy on 47s I believe with a 454 TBI.

Who invited you?
