Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Since I know Jeff will read this, where did you get your fuel filler hoses? Mine are 3/4" & 1 1/4" ID hoses IIRC. I don't want to pay $60 for two hoses and have 14 ft left over because I have to buy them in like 10 ft lengths.

Hiya, I used boat fuel hose...bought it at WestMarine which is normally STUPID money, but they had/have onese already cut by people that were sold at discounted prices.

I have a little left over, how much do you need?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Wait, so you're putting together a 44? I'm going to have one for sale soon. Locked, high steer, new brakes and bearings, just needs gears. Comes complete with sweet orange paint.
well. I already have the 44 and another lined up that is an unknown to me. I do have 3 jeeps though I guess... what are you asking? 8x6.5 pattern on yours right? High pinion?

Whatever, we can figure it out. I'd rather not drive out there twice.

Uh, what's your question? D44 stuff isn't that confusing.

Im used to 30s and not having 80 knuckles, spindles, brakes, and bearings to choose from. And the info is in a muddled mess in my head. Ill probably understand it when I read it another 6 times and drink a lot.

I love these random work trips I've been snagging lately.

Just found out I gotta be in Hershey, PA at 9:30 tomorrow morning, p.s., bring tools.

Now y'all know everything I know about it.

sounds like what happened to me, I was told this morning to drop everything and drive my coworker to the airport, he's flying to kenXXXXy to pick up a guy we just hired who doesn't realize he's moving to nyc yet. I hope he doesn't quit till at least the 29th so I can quit with a clean conscience.

when you do, let us know what it is exactly you actually do so we can fight over who gets your job.

you really, really don't want it. I already described how the office runs. If you want to make money off this job, invest in Pfizer, the new guy is gonna need a lot of xanax to deal with this shit and their profits will skyrocket.

literally the only reason I am still sane (marginally) is because I've given up caring at all what happens here. Shit makes so little sense I would be a tightly coiled ball of rage and frustration otherwise. For instance: take new product A as an example. When I started here, I was given two different bills of material for assembling the PCBs, both wildly inaccurate and both contradicting the other and also internally contradictory. I was also given a schematic that agreed with neither of those spreadsheets on the values of the components to be installed. The guy that designed it lives in Russia, the company we bought the design from is in Estonia, they hate each other, neither one will provide solid info to us without trying to sabotage the other company/person. I didn't even have the software I needed to open the actual original design files, it costs several thousand dollars. My boss told me to pirate it, I refused since I want to be able to work in this industry after I leave this company, he yelled at me a lot. At the 11th hour he authorized me to buy it, but by the time I was done getting a quote and putting the offer together he had changed his mind again (and blamed me for it.) We ended up ordering the PCBs without verifying that they matched either the original design files or the new ones, then ordered all the parts to assemble them from the BOM that I ended up hashing together from the two contradicting ones, which I know is still inaccurate (but can't get the good info, because he's still telling me to pirate the design software and I still won't do that.) The boards arrived, we assembled them, during assembly I found another half dozen issues with the BOM that were basically showstoppers and made the boards worthless till I fixed them. Halfway through me fixing them, he decided, without discussing this with me AT ALL, to send all the boards we had assembled to Russia so the original designer can test his new firmware on them. They don't even work and never will till I get time working on them again. This, of course, is my fault, because I didn't foresee him grabbing them while I wasn't here (i.e. he shipped them out on a weekend) and shipping them to the other side of the planet.

TL;DR: everything is XXXXed, owner of company is mercurial, insane, changes plans on a whim at a moment's notice, we are months behind because he changes things so often we can't ever finish something before he changes his mind again, and you will need to either emotionally disconnect yourself completely from your work or consume multiple pounds of xanax per day to even function.

Oh, coworker's company credit card started getting declined a few days ago. He mentioned it to the accountant (who is on our side and has been trying to beat some sense into the boss, with little success) who simply burst out laughing. Apparently the company card account has been comically past the credit limit for months and the owner simply hasn't bothered to pay the bill yet. It's not a good sign when the accountant simply bursts out laughing because everything is so XXXXed.

i had given him a chance and tried to almost befriend him but he turned out to be a royal douche.. oh well.

on another note, installing rock rails with rusted, mangled pinch seams is a royal pain in the ass. one side done, one more to go.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

my new registration for my xj came in. apparently i drive a green jeep now. i think painting it would be less of a pain in the ass than getting the reg fixed.

The difference is, I get called in to fix things that other people already XXXXed up, and make them right.

People higher up on the food chain have figured out that I have a unique mix of diplomacy, charisma, project management, hands-on mechanical experience, and analytical skills that makes me a good candidate for jobs like this. I expect to be given more and more of them in the future because now that I've proven myself on several occasions, those higher-up people can say "just let Chris handle it" instead of dealing with it themselves.

I think I'm ok with this...I don't mind the travel, and building a good reputation within your own company tends to be a positive thing. Plus I like getting out in the field.

I spent most of the day today writing an illustrated service procedure for the electric motor shop that's gonna fix what I figured out is wrong down at the steel mill in Alabama, and the last few days I've been coordinating with them and the mill to organize plant shutdowns and equipment access so they can do the work. I have one more conference call that I'll take on my way to Hershey tomorrow to finalize everything there.

Tomorrow I'll be working with the plant manager at Hershey to come up with a plan of attack for the best way to change the oil in 186 gearboxes while minimizing plant downtime and manhours, and next week implementing that plan with a deadline of March 19th.

The higher-ups like this. Just get it done and send them the bill.

Meanwhile, the only people unhappy with this are the poor dudes in Germany who caused these XXXXups to begin with. Sorry guys. Thanks for the buffalo wings and microbrew last Thursday, they were spectacular.
