THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My craftsman wratchets work mint, even after working with them at my job for 3 years.

I do take them apart, clean them, and re-assemble them with grease upon purchase though. The things that kill them is use in a stupid way and rust.

Like standing on a 3/8" ratchet to loosen lug nuts? :D

Are yours the teardrop style? Those are the ones I busted. 1/4" and 3/8". Both my fault for overloading the hell out of them.

stop defending your shitty tools. you sound just like the iron rock longarm fanboys right now
Exactly!

Tear them down (even brand new) and pack them with light grease. They work better. Of course this only goes for the older ones, not the new chinamen teardrops, those just plain are junk.

I will say I do have one fancy 3/8" long flex Snap-On ratchet that sure kicks the heck out of the Cman units but it also kicks it in the price department too which is why I only have one.

Idk what style my craftsmans are but they seem to skip teeth and reverse themselves all the time. Maybe it's user error on the "reversing themselves" part but I never had that issue with my previous sockets.

My buddy has some fancy craftsman ratchet which is A LOT better than the ones that came with my socket set so maybe they just sell garbage ratchets with the sets... :dunno:

Maybe I'll try tearing the ratchets down and cleaning/greasing them to see if that helps. Any specific grease that should be used?

Have u gotten the allen head sockets yet or you still usin allen wrenches?

Back onto rachets I honestly dislike the smooth hndle crfstman rachets I had one lock up hthe 2nd time I used it and the 2nd lock up less then a year later, never abused them either now the standered craftsman rachets I abuse the shit out of. And have yet to break one(like use em as a hammer and/or breaker bar on em)

I did. I got this set: http://www.tooltopia.com/vim-hms26.aspx
The Cman ones were junk and twisted to easy. Those seem to work pretty well. Taiwanese, but at least it they aren't Chinese; I couldn't afford/justify a $200 USA set for how often they get used.

Yeah, I'm with you on that. Just if you do break a new one, don't exchange it for a new unit. They are all Chinese now, request a rebuild kit. It takes all of 2 mins to tear it down and re-do the internals of those teardrop ratchets.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So here's a problem.

There's an installation of our gearboxes set to go online in less than two weeks, with over 200 units of varying shapes and sizes, at a very well-known food manufacturer in central PA whose products I'm sure you've all enjoyed.

Through no fault of ours (this job was spec'd and sold through a European OEM), all of these units should have been shipped with FDA-approved food grade gear oil, but instead are filled regular mineral oil. Big no-no in a food processing environment.

Some of the gearboxes have drain plugs, some don't, most are going to have to be removed from the machinery and partially disassembled to get all the oil out. Numerous times, because in the process of changing from petroleum to synthetic oil, you usually have to flush the gearbox a time or two, *and* run them in between, and at the end of the day there can be no more than 3% of mineral oil remaining in the gearboxes.

Oh, and they have a special paint finish that is usually compromised once sealed surfaces are broken apart.

Debating on telling my boss to give me a week and an address to send the bill to, and it'll be taken care of.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm taking the day off tomorrow and going to Martha's Vineyard. My dad has to measure/layout a big fancy kitchen or something for somebody with a big fancy wallet. Were also hoping to find an old friend my dad worked with years ago that is supposed to be out there. Then were gunna explore the fancy bars. I've never been out to the islands before.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Nope.

Hint, and no one needs to state the obvious answer, but said food manufacturer may also have a theme park and an arena at their facility.

yummy!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Mmmmm, gear oily goodness. My *insert product here* better not smell like gear oil in a few months. I'll know who to bitch to if it does.

that was my other guess, i was erring on the side of pretzels.
It's always a good idea to err on the side of pretzels.
