THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

bigfoot rolled out there latest and greatest today, i wanna ride

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Oh.

Little bit over 102".

Conveniently the same as a 2-door explorer, so I'll just leave the leaf springs under it and have a rolling chassis until it comes time to do the backhalf.

Needs 3" above & around a helmet.

edit: I've also decided to use a full-size person this time around instead of myself for testing seating position and clearances.

Sweet. XJ is what, 101 or something? I loved that on 35s. At least for rockcrawling.

Balls, I definitely don't have 3" above and around a helmet in my MJ. I'd have to chop the sheetmetal roof.

Yeah that's what I figure, I never had any problems at that length in my XJ. Should be a pretty similar footprint...kinda what I was going for. The seating position and weight distribution are going to be much further back though.

You don't need that for anything around here...planning ahead for Modified class @ KOH. I was never really comfortable with the amount of space I had in the XJ, although it got a lot better once I cut the interior A-pillar bars out.

You can do it, but you gotta have the seat real low, which gives you shit visibility and low-hanging transfer case.

That's a good point though right? Aren't XJs nose heavy to begin with?

Yeah I know, though it would be nice to get more room above my head.

Doesn't hurt my visibility since I'm 6'+, but it doesn't leave any room for bringing up the t-case. Especially with a monster 205

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah...i'm pretty stoked about that. I like the forward seating position of the XJ for visibilty but it sucks for just about everything else. I'm gonna push the motor as far back as the rear driveshaft will let me.

The way the front end will work out, i think it'll be a few inches wider than the rear after changing to the D44 TTB outers, which will be good for gettin through trees. Should only be a little wider than a stock dana 30, but with the body narrowed a lil bit it should be plenty nimble with enough tire clearance.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm adding another 150 lbs over the front axle

Do they ever open up Line Mtn to just...pre running or something?

Or is it only open for racing?

Just wondering where I can go to test stuff out in the spring.

I'll probably bug Billy about using the backyard...

assuming at least one of my vehicles is in good enough shape to make it there, I'm up for being your official 911-caller if you need someone to be there.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Chris, what are your plan for the SHO motor? Why not go with a small block, I assume weight? Is it the V6 or V8? Not really a critique like you asked, just trying to figure out your plans.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Nope...just the racing days. And unless you make an effort to get to the RCRocs races, probably SOL there too.

Biggest thing is getting runtime under power. Even if it's just a smooth dirt loop, which is almost what the RC loop is anyway. Going fast for a few minutes at a time doesn't really let you know about cooling issues or endurance stuff. I did over 30 laps on the RC loop without stopping once, just to go until they either fflagged me or something went wrong. Finally the front driveshaft fell out.

Uh oh... Not USA? What did I do?

I'm been complaining 'bout my Cman drivers for awhile now and it was time to step up to some big boy versions. The Cmans work ok, but they torque out and just plain don't hold the all that well when you are using them all day. I'll tell you, these are some of the fanciest, most comfortable, best screw holding drivers I've had my hands on. The linesman's were cheap and on sale so I picked them up too. I'll still use my Cman & Evolve ones in the garage/for auto use, but for household stuff (and you guys know I have a LOT of that coming) these are the bees knees.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I will use German and Swiss manufactured parts and tools any day of the week.

China can get XXXXed though.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

For the arguement earlier about what I wanna do for upper shock mounts, Ill be copying THESE. My bumpstop tubes and coil bucket plating will try everything together up there. Eventually, an engine cage will go across them too.

Lame. Not sure I'll be able to get to the RCRocs races, we'll see how next year goes.

Just trying something different. I'm sick of LS motors, i know they're good, but i'm bored with 'em at this point.

The one I have is the 3.0 V6, and i basically got the whole car for free. I'll probably set it up with an aluminum flywheel and just do a fresh timing belt, valve adjustment, bottom end bearings, and seals/gaskets for now. With my target weight for this rig, that already puts my power-to-weight about even with an average 400-hp Ultra4 car, with a shit-ton less rotating mass. The goal here is snappy acceleration, not top speed, although it should end up around 80 MPH at redline in low range (9000 RPM). This build is all about optimizing for the east coast and wide-open top end isn't a big factor.

The other part is learning curve...i know this thing is gonna be worlds apart from my XJ. If i get used to it and my limiting factor is power, there's a ton of aftermarket for this motor and a small turbo reliably puts it over 300 hp, and when your car only weighs 3000 lbs, even small hp gains are big.

Plus, the six-cylinder class at line mountain is probably the most competitive class there, i know a lot of theguys in it, and it's always fun when a 6-cyl guy overalls the race. Which does happen on occasion, and kinda proves it's not all about motor.

And if it really sucks, i should still have enough room to drop in a small block if i change my mind.

I'm honestly looking foward to your build solely for the fact you're not jumping on the LS bandwagon.

Half the reason I'm doing a big block is because it's stupid, the other half is acceleration of a full bodied, caged MJ won't be a problem.

I like reading up on out of the box drivetrains.
