Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Chris, is there a time limit on when that "good use" needs to actually start? If so I think I could be interested.

Not really, unless someone else comes along just itching to take on the project. I really haven't started listing or selling anything yet. It just came to mind because I saw a few guys express interest in the idea.

so apparently in 4 years i never had snap rings in my upper ball joints. and to get the ball joint out i had to cut the knuckle.

this just goes to show that snap rings are useless.

however i had to weld my lower ball joint in place on the new knuckle. it fit loosely

You should have talked to Adam about this, he's got a lot of experience in this area.

Just had hot cider for the first time.....it was awesome.

Hot cider and...?

I make one that gets boiled and mulled with whole cloves, cinnamon sticks, and allspice...usually then mixed with either Jim Beam or Laird's Apple Jack. You can make this surprisingly strong and have absolutely no idea there's anything besides cider in it. Just the thing for conking out with after working outside in the cold for a while.

Chris - you might know of something for this. I need to decode the output from a quadrature encoder and preferably would be feeding the signal direct to a PC / embedded system via i2c, SPI, or USB. Know of any off the shelf products for this? off the shelf angle sensors that decode straight from input shaft to i2c/spi/usb are also cool.

Yep. A friend of mine used this with either Matlab or Labview, I believe:

http://www.usdigital.com/products/interfaces/pc/usb/qsb#description

It's pretty low level; you have to connect it as a virtual RS-232 device (where you map a COM port to the USB plug), and then send commands to it...I think you'll probably be able to handle it. Keep in mind if you use that as a power source for the encoder you're stuck with TTL.

If you go back to their 'products' page they have a few inclinometers and a serial port interface to go with them...never messed around with those.

What's this going on? Or will you have to kill us if we find out?

:scared:

In other news...turns out that there's a bar at the train station by my office. They have 'commuter special' $2 Rolling Rock pints and in the half hour I spent sitting there yesterday, the group of 'regulars' spent 20 minutes discussing how many movies John Wayne actually died in (the answer is 3). On average I'll have about a half hour to wait between getting dropped off at the station and my train arriving...seems like that'll work out well. :)

My dad drove me here this morning because we're going to upstate New York for my sister's wedding this weekend...after experiencing my typical rush hour drive, he understands why I'm not all that unhappy about taking the train.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I was at my neighbors place because he had a bonfire going... we decided to cut a walnut fruit open (he has a walnut tree in his yard) to see how good the walnuts were and I slipped. slashed the shit out of my left ring finger. It was bleeding everywhere and wouldn't stay shut so I threw a couple stitches in it. Now I get to learn to touch type with only two fingers on my left hand for a while :dunce:

click for a big pic of my bloody finger with 4 stitches in it

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Chris, I don't want to take that from Mark, but I'm going to be addressing steering this winter in mine, an I'm sureei could put that to use. If he declines it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

What the flying XXXX?

I had a handful of drives that were reliably failing last night before I left for the day. I just put together an email to our design/FA engineers to see if they had ever seen this problem before and figured I'd brute force some log data off the drives to include with my email... all of the drives are functioning perfectly fine today. :banghead:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm almost ready to quit. I got sent to RI to try and cut up a 8' diameter 25' tall metal water tank. Tturns out its 3/4" thick and all I was given was a little wimpyy torch thatt barely cuts it. Did I mention I can't even get to the top off it? I made hardly any progress on it in the last three days.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

go back and get a bigger torch? :dunno:

sounds like a job for a die grinder to me. 3/4" is nothing, should take you a couple hours with harbor freight tools.
