THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I don't do preventative maintenance. I do reactive maintenance. It doesn't work out very well for me usually, but it is what it is.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I just got stuck in a conference call with one of our largest potential customers in California. With less than 2 minutes left til I'm supposed to leave. Not sure how long this is gonna take.

Casual overtime rules.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

its all about motivation...and owning several daily drivers.
agreed.

Holy bitchfest.
seriously, can we put all this angst to use properly in the members forum?

Well there are a few things wrong with this situation that won't work for most other people .
well, probably.

One thing I think most people continue to fail to realize just because you are in one situation, does not mean everyone else is or has the ability to be in the same situation as you.
well, obviously. But usually there is someone nearby to get spare parts off of, we live in the northeast.

Not everyone can have a giant stash of jeep parts laying around their yards, or has people close to them to go easily grab one night after work, without having to sacrifice their time, missing meals, getting little sleep, wasting gas, etc.
you have 4 XJs... you can't give me shit about this at all :spin1:

When it's an emergency because I busted something, yeah, I lose sleep, time, meals, whatever, GSD. Hell, I spent Friday night at FC last year partying like crazy on zero hours of sleep since Wednesday night, and I only got home from Rob's place at like 1AM Thursday after picking the axle up and worked a full day both Thursday and Friday.

Drive on some random ass donut spare? I'm sorry but I can't drive 75mph on some random donut or unbalanced tire to get to work on 128, or adam's case the LIE.
sure you can. I have done it. Heck I've driven the MJ to Manhattan 3 times in the last 3 weeks, once with 700lbs of tools and diesel in the back and the rear axle on the bumpstops. Guess what, it made it, and if it hadn't, I had the spare parts and tools with me to fix it.

Spare shafts? I don't know about you, but I'm not going to go out and buy spare chromoly axle shafts, special ordered for my application just because "everyone should have spares. I don't have that money for shafts to sit around in the off chance that I might randomly break it one time.
Spare shafts don't have to be chromoly, they are to limp out and go home, not so you can continue to wheel exactly the same way.

$100 for a motor, and one evening? I haven't seen really any motors for $100 that I would bother putting in my Jeep. I know it will certainly take more than one evening to not halfass some job either. pulling it out and putting in? ya.
Amusingly the motor I spent the most on was the most thrashed. I paid 75 bucks for skreed's motor and drove all night to go get it (I only got it because I ran the MJ out of oil on the highway and figured I owed my friend a motor because of that, guess how that turned out? Tim is daily driving that motor right now, and the motor from the MJ lasted another 35 thousand miles and in fact still runs great), I paid about the same for the one that came with the AW4 from Bump IIRC, I paid 160 for the one I got from Bradley and it came with an awesome tubesock air filter. Guess what? It still pulls like a horse, has awesome oil pressure, and gets the same gas mileage as the other 4.0s I've owned.

I've never had help while doing a motor swap and I have never taken more than 10 hours to do it. And I pull the whole drivetrain to do it. One I did in a parking lot, in a thunderstorm, the other I did on my back porch... in a thunderstorm.

Getting shit done is easy if you sack up and work like an animal with no regard for the weather, how sore you will be tomorrow, how much blood you are losing, what your neighbors think of you, or anything else.

I really like having 3 XJ/MJs because it means if a real emergency happens and I HAVE to get somewhere I can steal parts off one of the other jeep to make it happen. Hell, I'm building my home backup generator around a 4.0 just so I can use it for spare parts for the jeeps, and the jeeps for spare parts for it, depending on what is most important at the time.

And if shit REALLY hits the fan I call up Jay, Billy, or you in a panic and buy parts off the 3 jeeps in the yard that AREN'T mine :laugh2:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I have enough to be debt free right now, but the cash in my account has to go towards the house not the student loans. XXXX debt.
Same. Part of me wants to pay off the student loans and then restart saving for a house but the other part of me wants to get my own place ASAP since I REALLY want to move out. I think I'll keep the student loans. It's a small enough monthly payment that I can live with it.

I have no idea where my ex is or how much weight she has gained/lost nor do I care.

Ditto, except one of my exes loves to text me once in a while telling me how shes doing and the last update I got included "I've lost some weight"... While we were together she went from small to large so "some weight" is a relative term. :wierd:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ken, no prob on the axle, it was good to see it haave a last hurrah. and Mark so thats why wont awnser to my offer for that motor? u seem to think that a high milage 4.0 is worth a million bucks.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

either tinight or tomorow morning i plan on seriously looking at a 02 F250 Powerstroke, if price and milage is right that i might take the dive, if it has a stick then bonus if not it wont be a deal breaker

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

and my final 2 cents, i miss having a DD/wheelin rig, its great to beable to drive to the trails the go to work the next days with battle scars, its just the wheelin i want to do no longer allows a street leagal rig

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Colin, I just can't even begin to comprehend the reasoning that goes through your head. I know full well what preventative maintenance means, but guess what You're still working on a vehicle. I'm sorry I can't lay under a vehicle and turn the wheel at the same time to see that the TRE has play, or that I asked Carmelo about balancing tires the week before I met up with you, and he even mentioned it that very night when we went out. But I don't do maintenance on my vehicles, so I guess I don't know why I was at your house asking you to help me take a look at it. I won't bother you again with that then.

Ken, I actually value comfort in a ride, and don't like to gamble with having stuff fail/cause more problems because I went for the easy fix, or put some part in that I just got because. If I'm going to bother spending time putting a part in, I want to put a known quality part that hasn't got XXX,XXXX miles on it. That is just my mentality. Also, my shafts are custom length in the front, so that is added expense there, and Colin decided to throw away my spare stub shafts. My rear has 5x5.5 pattern, stock shafts don't have that. i.e. after market shafts.

Rob, I actually forgot to get back to you, I do that a lot. I'm not ready to pull the motor for a while either.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

WTF none of the major parts stores can track down a steering box for a 07 E350. I was supposed to do the job Sunday, guess not now.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ken consider the money rent for storing the engine.....

in case anyone is interested I have a 4.0 with 30kish miles on it for sale :helpme:

I actually want to swipe it when we head down for Rocktoberfest. I braced the hell out of the mounts on that axle and it stood up to my "retard with a throttle" wheeling style amazingly. Best axle I ever had!

ok, custom length shafts are a decent excuse, the rear, you should have brought some stock shafts to school and used a CNC lathe to add the second bolt pattern :spin1:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So I got the shocks in from poly performance. Ordered 255/70 and got 298/36. Oh well, not a big deal to me. Im sure I wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyways

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I could swear you already posted something about that. Maybe it was someone else and I think my name is Bob again.

How much for the engine?

I think he did post something about it already and people told him to call them and make sure they were the right shocks..

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

fawk. the power steering pulley puller isn't playing nice, just can't get enough leverage on it with the handle they gave me. That pulley is on there REAL tight. Guess I'll pick up the impact stuff and have at it tomorrow.

Yeah the invoice didn't match the part numbers/descriptions... I did call, and they said they should be the 255/70. Oh well, like I said its not a big deal. They got here before this weekend which was my main concern
