THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So I just got asked to do some work in Afghanistan for one of the radios that I was testing last year. 3-6 months, pretty much double the pay, but substantial risks (if that wasn't obvious).

Probably going to turn it down. If I didn't have work I wouldn't have much of a choice, but I'm pretty much swamped right now.

PUSSY.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

not being a smartass/badass, but personally I'd probably do it, especially if I would make that much. It'd do me some good to make a shitload of money for a while and not be home to be able to spend it

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I would not.

I'd go.

When are you going to get the chance to go there again (never mind get paid)?

How much worldly traveling have you done? It's an absolute blast.

edit: Also, when would you be leaving? Missing the entire summer would be a bummer. That's the only thing that would make me hesitate.

I'd rather not be on long-term travel anywhere. I wouldn't see Kate for 3-6 months, no wheeling this entire summer, no hanging out with any of my friends, etc.

It's way beyond on the money to me. It would be complete isolation from my personal/social life. I wouldn't mind 2-3 weeks or something, but I wouldn't be able to handle that long.

I have 0 desire to go to the Middle East, so I don't care if I never get the chance to go there again.

I'd have a hard time believing it would be "an absolute blast" being in a warzone...no pun intended.

It's not like it's a recreational thing. I'd be working long hours as well so very little time to do anything. Not to mention, 90% of the time you're not allowed to leave the base camp.

Yeah, I understand. I definitely wouldn't like it either, I just mean I think in 6 months when I got back I'd be glad that I had gone. I could have over $50k potentially, and that'd make a big difference in a lot of things. Sacrifice 6 months but come back and I'd be in much better shape. I'd definitely still think about it long and hard before agreeing though, for sure. I wouldn't hold it against ya for a second if you decided not to go

and 100% of the time, you don't want to! :laugh3:

I'm not trying to tell you what to do Colin, I just gave you my opinion.

I think you might be selling the opportunity short, but maybe not. I dunno. It's obviously your call.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I realllllly hope the weather behaves tonight, seems a little iffy as of now... I'm in a great mood today for some reason, I'd hate to have that ruined by rain

I hope the weather is decent too.

I was supposed to be going into Boston tonight for my buddy's bachelor party and it was going to be a hell of a time. Already took tomorrow off for recovery and everything.

Then my father got admitted to the hospital last night :thumbdn: may or may not be needed to take care of the kid siblings tonight instead of partying with old friends. Either way I am going into Boston until about 10PM... just a matter of whether I stay in town and party all night or only have a couple drinks and go home early.

FWIW: Father is doing fine now, or at least he was the last time I got an update. Just a matter of whether the hospital wants him to stay overnight for monitoring purposes. If he wasn't fine I wouldn't be going into town at all.

Yeah that's the way I view it. It wouldn't be fun, but I would definitely have a lot more money to play with especially with the fact that, like you said, I wouldn't be spending any of it over there.

Yeah I know...? I didn't really come here looking for advice, I already know I don't want to do it  It was more of a twitter update than anything.

I think you're comparing it to a recreational vacation. It's not a glamorous place to be from what I've heard from people who've done it in the recent past. Why do you think they offer double pay?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Hope everything is ok with your Father Scott.

That kind of stuff is always scary.

The contrast to that, is my boss asking me why I *don't* want to spend more time over in Germany. The training's from monday-wednesday, he said at least I should make a week out of it since the company's paying anyway.

Porsche factory tour in Stuttgart, here I come. :D

As of now it looks like I'm flying over Friday night and getting into Stuttgart Saturday morning, so I'll have saturday and sunday to do stuff. Then three days of training, fly out at lunchtime Thursday, get back late Thursday night, leave for Line Mountain friday morning. Excellent.

Just trying to decide how long I want to layover in Amsterdam. The guy who works in my office from Finland said, "hell, you're not married, you don't have a girlfriend, spend a XXXXing night there."

Yeah...that's the kind of work travel I think Anthony is thinking my offer is.

I would definitely do that for the reasons Anthony mentioned, as I haven't traveled many places at all.

Sounds like fun though, I'd be pumped. What are your plans for Sat/Sun if any? Just walk around?
