THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Exactly why I don't calculate my mileage in the winter.

Between winter blend and idling I probably get something pretty poor for economy.
My VW gives me a readout as I drive in the multi-function display. It has real time, trip1 avg, trip2 avg. trip1 avg is for the duration that the car is on and it always resets itself. It's very easy for me to know if I got 35mpg going somewhere and only 25 on the way back. trip2 has to be manually reset, which I usually do at each oil change. Summer mileage I'm usually at 29-32mpg (I can get as much as 36mpg if I want to... But driving that slowly is boring). This winter I've been at 26-29 all inclusive (idling to warm up, winter gas, etc)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

im gonna order LEDs today so I can put my quarter guards on this weekend
Which reminds me I need to find some small (read: <2.25" diameter mounting) LEDs that are bright enough for brake light usage. I can't seem to find anything other than some low output chinese junk.

My truck has all those fancy things too, but you have to reset them in order for them to work for each tankful. Honestly I would rather have an early 80s style truck dash with a mechanical gauge and no electronics.

My CTD does that too...however it's usually off by about 0.5-1 mpg.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

All y'all saying you get more than 20/21mpg in any XJ are a lying crock or are not filling the tanks right.
No way a brick on wheels is going to pull 23+ mpgs.
Tank filled the same way I normally do, just checked the mileage online, 21.6mpg. That was running 60-65 most of the time, I left at 1am, diddnt hit traffic untill baltimore, and it was minor traffic.
Never came close to that again though.

I wonder if that has to do with tire size and the spedometer being off. The speedo is off just a tad in every car I've ever owned. It reads faster than you are actually going by about 2%.

I have seen 2" red multi-LED lights (read- more than just 12 LED's built in... something closer to 20-30) at truck stops before. Not sure if they are cheap chinese junk or not, but they are BRIGHT.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Usually mpg readouts are off a bit because of the combined effects of the speedo being off a bit along with fuel level senders being not quite linear.

Whelen makes something close but they want like $60-80 for the pair. I can't justify that if I risk the chance of busting one. Also the problem with most 2" lights is the mounting is well past the 2.25" I have to work with.
I'll have to hit the truckstops, thanks.

Possibility. My truck is off by that amount I think.

Doesn't use the fuel level sender.

Mine is broken in my CTD, so the MTE always reads like 5 or 0

I'm going to slap a big MADE IN CHINA sticker on your XJ the next time I see it.

I have also seen the 2" LED's at Tractor Supply and Harbor Freight Tools, although not sure about how bright they are. Should also be good places to look though. I'll have to measure the ones that I have, but if you use the rubber grommet for mounting, if the lights are hit they just push in and don't actually break. My ambers in my tail light boxes have been shoved around a few times and have not broken yet.

Interesting, I always figured it did. I know my fuel gauge is all kinds of goofy, I just use my trip odometer to tell me when to fill up now.

Add another thing to the "stuff for me to build years from now when the house is done" list... considering a workbench. Like hell I'm spending money on some fancy ass name brand workbench or watching CL for weeks when I decide I want one. I'm thinking I'll build the frame from 4x4 and 2x4 lumber, lag bolts, and some metal stock for cross bracing, then use 2x12s for the actual structural benchtop with 1/2" sheathing plywood over it to act as a sacrificial top I can replace when it wears out.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I know that FleetPride sells a lot of that stuff... I've had great luck with their service.

I got ALL of my lights at truck stops, and never paid more than $25 for any single one, including the large ovals I used for my rear brake lights.
