THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

All y'all saying you get more than 20/21mpg in any XJ are a lying crock or are not filling the tanks right.
No way a brick on wheels is going to pull 23+ mpgs.
I'm in the clear, it was in the MJ not an XJ :moon:

I punched the trip-odo reset button when I filled up right next to the campground, we drove for many hours and I mostly disposed of my hangover, when we stopped for another fill-up I filled it up completely again and divided miles by gallons. I've verified my odo against GPS, it's within 1-2% of accurate. It came out to 23.13mpg or 23.31mpg, I forget which. I was just as surprised as you, I redid the math figuring I might be half braindead still.

On the other hand, in the XJ when it's heavily loaded and I'm driving like a bat out of hell, I get 11-12mpg. If the TCU acts up and dumps me in 2nd gear for the whole trip and I still don't let up on the fun pedal, it drops to around 9.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Best I ever got in my XJ was 36.5 MPG.

Oh, and I get 29 MPG in my Cummins towing 14,000 lbs up a 7% grade.

I get 40 mpg in my CTD wheeling it up logging roads with Bill's XJ on the trailer.
I so wish we had a video or some photos of that or at the very least a photo of those logging guys faces.

Euro lights increase mileage, none of you fools would listen to me.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah Ross if you did that with 3.55s and stock tires, your odometer is going to say you went further than you actually did.

I have a corrected speedo gear. In fact, I actually go further then my odo so my calculations are jsut under. At 73 on my speedo, my GPS says 75.

Normally, I would agree. This was the only time I ever got better than 21 mpg to a tank. It was in the fall and it was all off-highway middle of no where roads and I was taking my time enjoying my drive(s) and going easy on the fun pedal. I burned that tank in less than 24 hours too, FWIW. My XJ was bone freakin' stock at the time.

edit: I didn't have GPS to confirm mileage, so it may be off 3-5%... But it was still the best mileage I ever got out of my XJ.

Backpedal much? :D

So if that was the only time don't you think that the point is an outlier and the data point should be thrown out? Just saying. :)
They definitely thought we were retarded.
Without any doubt.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

All MPG debates revolve around "that ONE time..." or "I've only ever done it once...".

Then it's not indicative of what your friggin vehicle gets.

It gets so blown out of proportion on any CTD forum.

DUH.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

23 was definitely an outlier in my case. I averaged around 17 to 19 last summer in the MJ with a new O2 sensor, all wiring in good order, a heavily motor oil soaked air filter, and speeds of ~75-80mph. Mixed highway and city driving.

That was with the auto though, I am hoping I get better mileage with the stick.

I'm not backpedalling, just providing more detail on the circumstances. I really don't think it was a bogus mileage. I can get 15-25% better mileage in my VW on roads like those too, if I'm careful and not dumb with the skinny pedal. That was also the only time where I had my XJ in a situation like that, so it makes sense to me that that's the only time I ever saw that sort of fuel economy. Most of the time I get impatient and drive faster. When it was stock I usually saw 18-20mpg, so I didn't think that 24mpg was so outlandish, given the circumstances.

Just for you Colin, one time I had a drive that involved lots and lots of downhill driving and there was very very little traffic. I got over 50 mpg for almost an hour's worth of driving.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I have no friggin clue what i get for mpg's in the XJ, and i don really care either. i like it better that way

Not knowing makes it hurt a little less.
