THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Really only need the motor + computer & harness, the rest of the car can be a shitheap, and even then I'll probably rebuild the motor anyway and swap camshafts. Auto preferably.

That, I might have a line on.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Screw that.

I want a '78 full-bodied Ramcharger.

440 / NP435 or NV4500 / don't care what t-case.

tons and 37-38s.

Built to haul ass.

ZOMG THAT IS THAT MOST ORIGINAL IDEA YOUVE HAD!!! WHY HAVENT YOU SUGGESTED THIS BEFORE?!?!?

How much would you pay for a complete ford taurus, we'll probably take the crap we usually take and sell you the rest.

I'm guessing it's the right one because I typed 95 ford taurus and found this pic which looks like what we have.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I don't even know what they go for, to be honest...though if you can find out a bit more about it, I'd be interested. Mileage/trans/etc. No title necessary either.

If you realistically think you could come get it I'll ask him how much he'd want for it. If we take the cats and all that stuff off the price drops big time but scrap metal is worth a lot and he won't want to have it sitting around if he doesn't have to. I'll get back to you tomorrow.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

From the sound of it you could rip everything you normally do off it, then cut it through the A-pillars and floor and send Chris what's left and he'd be happy.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

That's a lot of cutting I don't want to do. Time is money and my dad isn't going to pay me to play with a torch for two hours cutting a car in half and having no way of dragging it back outside without making it a huge ordeal. All are cars still roll when we're done stripping the 98% of the time.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

That's 5 minutes with a sawzall if I'm around. Good point on dragging it outside though.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

someone scrapped a sho? dont tell the dude who works with my mom he'll cry. hes had 4.

I scrap(and any junkyard/scrap place) tons of good stuff on a daily basis. I missed out on everything I needed to do my fuel injection swap the other week because it got scrapped while I was gone.

I use a sawzall everyday and that is probably not a five minute job. Cutting through body, fine. Where sawzalls suck dick is when you're cutting through something and the blade doesn't have enough room to reciprocate back and forth and keeps hitting something. I'm the only one I have ever seen lubricate a sawzall blade and they still don't last for shit. Sawzalls are cool and all, until you start using a torch.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah I wrecked my first sawzall when the end of the blade slammed into the inside of an XJ frame rail about 45 bazillion times. That and when something squeezes shut on the blade and turns it into a pretzel are my two least favorite things about them.

We cut up an entire XJ (roof off in 2 pieces, body bisected to the front seats, then cut straight across behind the firewall) in about 45 minutes last spring, including carrying the pieces to where they got stacked, so I figured it was like 5 minutes to chop the A-pillars and floor. My time estimates tend to be on the rosy side though :eyes:

I like em because they are allowed in most yards and don't set shit on fire quite as often.

I wouldn't care about the cats or anything like that...for something like this, it's just nice to have the donor vehicle to grab all the little stuff related to the motor.

Getting it wouldn't be a problem but it'd probably have to be on a weekend.

If it's not a huge pain in the ass I'd appreciate you checking into it.

I assume you're planning on getting the 3.2 rather than the 3.0? The 3.2 never came in front of the manual. IIRC the auto was introduced in 91 as an option and the 3.2 was introduced in `93 only available in automatics.

running driving, everything working with no problems and no rot you could expect to pay $1k-2000 depending on the condition of everything. With blown transmissions you can get it for as little as $500 very often, but then you're stuck with a blown trans. On the other side of that coin, blown trans are common in SHO's so therefore cheap SHO's are also common. I got my '92 in pretty good shape for $1k.

Not long ago I found a 95 with low miles and a blown 5spd. He had a new one in the trunk pretty much ready to go in but decided to sell the car. He was asking $500 and from the ad, it looked like the body was in pretty good shape. I don't think I've ever really seen a SHO with a terrible body and a good trans, but I have seen several terrible body, terrible trans, good engine.

Are there any other vehicles you could steel an auto trans from and it would bolt up to the Yamaha? I know the manual is the same one used in the Mazda MX-6 and used market value is $200-300. It was the only trans Ford had that was small enough and strong enough to sort of stand up to the 3.0.

Correct, and transplanting 3.0 cams into it.

The Yamaha shares the same bolt pattern as the Vulcan V6 series, so yeah, there's a ton of stuff. The AOD automatic works just fine and can be built plenty stout, and adapted to a Dana 300 easily. The intake on the motor is also symmetrical so it can be flipped around for better intake placement.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I would have never thought the grandmamobile ford taurus was viewed as cool in any, way, shape or form, especially it's drivetrain.

What's the difference between the cams? Just lift? Duration and lift?

Based on that info about the bolt patterns and the availability of SHO's with blown trans, I think I'd look for one with a good engine and crappy everything else. You should be able to find one for <$500. Take everything you need out of it and bring the rest to the scrapper.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My mother used to work in a building next to the biggest SHO tuning shop on the east coast... I think they've since gone out of business.
