THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My 4.5" milwaukee grinder has been taking all the abuse I can throw at it.

Granted, the Makita we had before lasted god knows how many years before it needed replacement.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah I had heard of some people adding pickups as well to deal with the off-camber starvation.
Didn't Bill do that? (I know his setup is completely different than what you're talking about right now)

My 3 year old Black and Decker from Wally World is doing alright, but I had to take it apart and fix the wiring once. It gets sorta hot now, but still works. I'm thinking of making it a 'wire wheel only' grinder and getting the one you have and/or getting the 7/9" version.

He has Walbro pickups, but he used an external pump with the pickup tubes already part of the cell I believe. Not 100% sure how he did his, but he can probably chime in.

I'll look into it over the summer, but will probably end up pulling a Chris and leaving it alone

I'd just get the 4.5" version hasta

Mine was $65 but then I used Adam to get another 10% off when he worked at Sears.

Was well worth the money in my eyes.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My Milwaukee 4.5" grinder has many hundreds of very abusive hours on it and still works like brand new. I've even run it damn near continuously for over an hour at a time when I was cleaning the old brackets off my axles. Not to mention all the brackets/tabs/structural pieces I've cut out of 3/16" stuff with regular cutoff wheels.

It was also one of the only ones to have a 90* handle position - like in the 'top' of the gearbox. For as much cutoff wheel & plate stuff as I do, having that handle position was a key feature.

The Sawzall® is just basic, sturdy, and bombproof. Also one of the best tool-less blade holding mechanisms I've used. Milwaukee invented the Sawzall®, so I'd expect nothing less. :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I use my father's craftsman sawzall with milwaukee Torch blades.

Worked well enough to hack through the disaster Jeep called an MJ frame rail.

You know what they say about those temporary fixes...

hasta no kidding on this part haha

That is pretty cheap. I like the trigger grip of mine and find the short ones cumbersome sometimes, but haven't really used all that many of them. Yours is the short one with a big fat grip, right?

edit: Ross and I have the same B&D that seems to be holding up for him, but I don't know how old it is. It has the 3rd handle position on top too.

my grandpa had a craftsman sawzall that came with the kit. didn't last very long, i used it to cut my leaf spring bolts and the thing just died on me. never got it to work again

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

You could always put a rollbar in the middle of the bed and suspend the tank from it... presto, zero off camber / hill climb fuel starvation issues! :gee:

(no, I am not serious.)

My Craftsman grinder has done well, my Ryobi has also done well so far.

My Craftsman cordless sawzall has worked well, aside from the time I accidentally used it as a jack-hammer (the end of the sawblade rammed the inside of a frame rail repetitively on full throttle for a couple seconds and it died completely.) The stupid no-tools blade release broke also, still works but not as well. I'm about due for my second replacement, this is why I got the extended warranty.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I want to get metal cutting chains for my chain saw. XXXX all this gay sawzall crap. Can you imagine what the junkyard employees would say if I showed up with a metal cutting chainsaw?

Get one that's at least 10 amps. Mine has the paddle-style switch and I like it a lot better than the trigger...again, mostly because of how often I use it at odd angles.

I just checked the Milwaukee site and they don't make mine anymore. That's always kinda disappointing; I'd buy the same one again instantly if it ever craps out. I fear change. :shiver:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

That "drivetrain help" thread is

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yeah... not even gonna start.

I still haven't blown a single U-joint (and not through lack of trying), but I did run one for so long it pulverized and then melted together the remaining needle bearings in two caps. Soon as I get a new camera I need to take some pics of the pieces of metal that resulted, I showed them to Billy and he had also never seen anything like it before. I've seen em get chewed into powder, or chewed into rusty powder, but I have never seen one melt together again after.
