THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Shit like this makes me wish I was on pirate...

"Well, to start out, tires for 30s are fairly expensive and difficult to find in a good tread. You should take this into account when purchasing your dubs. Also be aware that approximately 3 to 5 inches of lift and significant fender trimming may be required."

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

If anyone's interested, the fuel sender thread in mod tech is mildly entertaining. Someone botched resistor math and the thread is already derailed talking about reserve gas tank capacity.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Heh, I'll go check it out. Probably won't post anything because I try to keep my nose out of electronics as much as possible.

I just remembered that I have a $50 gift card to sears that I haven't spent yet... I wonder what I should get.

yeah...

resisting (sorry, that was NOT an intentional pun) the urge to go all-out science on people in that thread.

Speaking of which anyone get a measurement of the voltage across the gauge sender at min / max readings? I can get it myself, but if someone already measured it and has the data on hand why bother... I've been curious how much power is dissipated by the sender maximum for some time.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

hmm sure I guess. I forgot completely :confused1:

Ross, I might show up if you're around so I can buy those bumpstops, pick up the springs, and shit I completely forgot the other thing again.

lol.

C'mon, nothing a BASIC stamp and a digital pot can't take care of. :dunce:

edit: ^^^ posted that before reading your other response in that thread. Nice. :)

This is exactly what I am thinking, though I have a severe allergy to BASIC Stamps :dunce: can't stand those things. I'd probably toss a small AVR , a voltage reference (TL431), and a digipot or two on a board and write a dirt simple while(1) loop using a lookup table to do the conversion.

My real worry is that the gauge sender gets enough current through it that it'll smoke a digipot if I try to use one. I need to do some experimenting to prove or disprove this, but worst-case, 15 volts across 20 ohms = nearly 12 watts. No digipot I know of can handle that, so I'm hoping the actual current applied is much lower.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I want to go work on my MJ :rattle:

Carmelo scored me some hitch tubing.

I think my goal for this week/weekend is to get the front truss finished and build the coil mounts, as well as finish off the rear bumper except for shackle hangers.

FTR's annual meeting is on Sunday so that screws me over with time. Hopefully it's short (has only been like 2-3 hours the past few years).

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Does FTR do anything anymore?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Not even gonna say it :anon:

God I want to get out of here so bad.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Eh, not much.

I'm mostly in it because I'm still friends with the guys on the BOD, and they probably don't want to abandon the club. I'm the secretary, but really that doesn't mean anything as all I do is take meeting minutes like 3 times a year and update the paperwork with the state once a year.

I'm hoping to wheel with some of those guys again when my MJ is done.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Oh, and I forgot to mention that 90% of the people from Summit Crawlers were originally in FTR (Bob, Liza, Roger, Scotty, Cory, etc.).

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ken, you mentioned in that thread about the non-linearity of the fuel gauge response, even in an OEM application. I've been half-baking ideas to try and fix that on my Dodge for over 3 years...

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=638897&highlight=linear+fuel+gauge

I think my original idea had to do with recording the resistance at each gallon mark to build a calibration curve for the stock sender, then use that to get a straight % of fuel remaining from the sender reading, and convert it to the appropriate resistance for whatever gauge I was using. Basically obtaining both calibration curves by experimentation and creating one function to go between the two.

Just what I need, more project resurrections...

My fuel gauge doesn't work period.

I just fill up, go between 4-500 miles and then fill up again.

35 gallon tank x 18 mpg (worst case possible) = 630 miles

My avg mpg counter is actually only off by +/- 1 mpg at most.
