THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

go with the 38s.

bigger e-peen, and easier to keep covered with flares so the popo stay off your case.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Well this is looking like a fun weekend. (see attachment)

I refuse to take the GWB/Cross Bronx. Add 15 miles to go the Tappan Zee, remove an hour of traffic and headaches.

Plus the Sawmill River Pkwy is always a fun shortcut from 684.

Can't wait. :D
That's a lot of miles. I also dislike the GWB, but also the Tappan Zee.

i went through the city once.

XXXX that shit.

used to use the tappanzee to get to rc. then realized 84 to 81 is a much nicer, stress free, no traffic drive. and takes just as long despite being a longer trip
Exactly, but don't spill all the secrets or else 84 to 81 will become crowded with people doing the same thing.
i think 38x13's would be less breakage than a 37 x 14.5"

and will make my dick appear bigger
I will ruin your day, go with 36s.
hot rolled is more malleable iirc, cold rolled is stronger. For floors and crap you really don't care.

Hot rolled will have mill scale on it, cold rolled won't. Just a minor annoyance.
This could be a major annoyance depending on the mill. Structurally it won't matter for what you are doing.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

next wek ill be doin my own steel order, of lots o 2x5 and 1x1

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I like 84+81 a lot more also.

Those damn cement highway expansion joints can suck it though, I am hoping that the M54A2 will bounce a bit less with an XJ in the back. It was hell with no load, the rear axles were bouncing a couple inches off the ground.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I also feel like a bad engineer right now because I am drawing a blank on which would be better for your use (hot v cold rolled)

That means you're being a good engineer.

A bad engineer would offer an authoritative opinion on something they don't know anything about.

Ha, true. Boy I feel like we've been here before. Beuller?

I should still have a fairly general feel for it so I could offer my offhand suggestions with a caveat of 'let me double check on that.' So now I'm going to go re-read about it.
Oh man, if only everyone did this in all fields. Wouldn't things just be so much better?
Things might work correctly more often.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I just tell everyone I know nothing about anything so if they use my info and it goes badly it's not my fault :anon:

maybe I should have been a lawyer, not an engineer.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Carmelo is going to Turner steel for me right now.

4x8 of cold rolled 14 gauge for $80. That's pretty cheap.

The hot rolled was actually a few dollars more. He had to double check it, but that's what it is.

They actually do deliver for a minimum of only $150.

1x.120 square tube is only $35 for a 24' length. Seems pretty cheap to me?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I really wonder what it is. Chris has the best guess so far IMO, but I still am not sure if he's right or not.

I think the TRE idea is a crock of shit. No way that that's what it is.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

that thread nearly has me signing up on pirate.

I'm betting on stellite or an old TRE/balljoint... as for why the surface is so rough on what used to be a balljoint, often cast/forged metals will corrode in ways that show the shape of the tooling used. I've seen pieces of corroded steel bar that looked like wood because the differing hardnesses and carbon concentrations resulted in a definite "grain" visible after heavy rusting.

As for why you'd end up with that many TREs sitting around, well, I have like 10 or 15 sitting in my backyard and by the backdoor with all the old tie rods and drag links that came with the various axles I've bought.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ken: there's a huge flaw in the TRE/BJ theory. Go take a grinder to one of your TRE/BJ's and tell me what color the sparks are. Compare it to the sparks generated by grinding on that ball. Oh wait, there were none.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Colin, Ecomike in the ZDDDDDDDP thread's got you by your balls!!! You don't know shit about XXXX!!
