...no idea why he took the skin off.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I measure my tires in picometers. Colin's MT/R's are 1016000000000 picometers. Mine are gonna be 939800000000 picometers.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I took the door skins off because it's pretty much the only way to feed the wires into the door. It's only a handfull of bolts holding the skin on and removing the handle assembly. Takes less than 15 mins and lines right back up perfectly with zero adjusting to get the body lines right. It also made it a lot easier to mount the 8" speakers.

OK, I am jealous of a VW. This is a problem.

I've fed wires into doors a couple times and it is a pain in the ass, but can be done without pulling the skin usually (obviously depends on the car.) Did a Nissan back in high school and all it took was skinny arms. From the look of it, yours would have been possible but hellish, especially since you kept the stock connector and bored it out instead of putting the wires through a separate hole into the flex duct.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

That sound system better give eargasms.

The work doesn't look too bad other than the door skins (why the hell did you have to do that??)

Care to share how much you have into it? Probably better you didn't so we don't start saying you'll REALLY never be done with your XJ :D
It will when it's done but it still needs a lot of tuning and the amp for the sub needs to be rebuilt. It's giving a crappy signal and I've definitely isolated it to that. I'm heading to the store to send it out to JL tonight. $120 flat rate and it comes back with a 90 day warranty.

The work wasn't bad, but it's not my favorite. I'd way rather take apart an axle, but I really wanted the system to be installed.

I'm not sure how much I have into it this time around. The first time I had close to $2k @ MSRP but I didn't pay msrp for anything. This time I probably have closer to $2k actual spending but I reused probably $800+ of gear that I already had.

So yeah, go ahead and tell me that I could have bought steering for $1200. I'm just happy I can enjoy this every day for at least an hour.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah I would never do that, but I won't get into that debate with you.

Work came out sweet, Scotty is apparently the person to go to for help with that stuff.

You could almost buy steering for $1200, mine came to $1400 shipped. :D

I did my XJ and that wasn't too too bad, but still sucked. I can't imagine doing it any other way with this car.

Getting those connectors lined back up after I drilled them and ran wires took forfuckingever and was a huge PITA. This was probably the single most frustrating task of the weekend. They had to go together juuuuust right. That's the only connector in the whole door and I wasn't about to make another one. I was aiming for stealth with the whole thing. The only thing that looks not-factory are the tweeters and head unit (until you look in the hatch).

Yeah that'd be beating a dead horse again.

He absolutely was a huge help. He definitely knows his shit. I could have done this without his help but it would have taken way longer and probably not come out nearly as nice.

Hahaha :conceited

Dont forget knuckles and arms, thats part of the steering. That should push you to $2k+ no problem.
