So I had a battery leak in my big Maglight I keep in my green Jeep about a year or so ago. It was a pain to get the battery out, since it was quite bloated and the aluminum started to corrode inside the tube.

I just went to change the batteries again, and turns out it was a pain to get the last battery out, due to what looked like a build up of corrosion.

Anyone have any ideas on how to prevent this from continuing to happen?

Replace the batteries more often, or free them by smacking the maglight against any available large dense object (the police use this method, from what I've heard.)

Or get a rechargeable LED work light. I love mine, it's much easier to use when working on the jeep and came with a cigarette lighter charger.

I got the battery out by spraying WD-40 in there, and banging it repeatedly against my vice.

I like the Maglight, its for emergencies/beach/weapon/anything, not just for setting up and working on the vehicle when I need a light. I keep a flood light with magnetic base that plugs into the lighter for that if I need it. Plus, I have two maglights, my original one has survived being flooded twice when I dunked the Jeep. One time I didn't even empty it, the second time I opened the battery compartment, poured the water out, and then used it for light so I could wire my CB back for the trip home. I'm going to stick with Maglight after that.

I did just see that Maglight has a new, rechargable flashlight that has a dock you can mount then plug into your cigarette lighter. Tempting to get one of those and just hardwire the dock straight into the vehicle.

Didn't get crap done on the XJ tonight. Will most likely spend most of the day tomorrow doing the rear coilovers again.
