THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I hear ya. I cant wait to get out wheelin again but have been to busy, damn life getting in the way. Now I got tix to the last Red Sox game against the Yankmes on Sun, so there goes GAJR.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm already tired of not wheeling and it's only been a few months.

then STFU, get off the computer/out of the office, and go get it done! Btw, if you wanna come up to WW on the 10th you can wheel red jeep awhile to get a bit of a wheeling fix for yourself :)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Great line I heard today that applies to a few people I know:

"The only danger is your stupidity."

I was going to comment on this, then realized I had nothing to say. :gag:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ross, you actually ride a mountain bike? I can't picture that.

You guys know there is a ton of good single trails all around the cape, many just a mile down the street from my house.

I huff n puff my ass off, the state forest in my town is a bigtime known biking area with a bunch of kickass stuff. we found a sweet downhill section last weekend too.

Plus, I have to get some sorta "wheelin" fix while black jeep is outta action. I wanna go snow biking!! :D

Should I spend my night:

Cutting up the unibody (fun)
Fabbing cart for mig welder (boring, but needed)

you shoulda told me you wanted a cart, airgas has nice ones (same as i got) for cheap.

Up to you. I don't mind building stuff, but for the MJ mostly.

For example I want to build a tube bender like Bill's but I hate not working on the MJ while I can still do stuff.

x2 I woulda built one like Bill's too, but after him telling me hes got a little bit over $500 into it (plus time/effort), it only makes sense to me to just buy a built one for less the $500 shipped to my door :dunno:

And Ross(+ whoever else is interested) I'm getting those Mac's straps for $150 shipped, so not a super great deal but whatever, still $15 off from if I ordered "new".

 Niiiiiiiice.

$500 includes the die and ram as well.
I've never seen an air/hyrdo bender for less than $500 shipped? Got a link?

i've got a derek jeter shirt you can wear so everyone thinks you atleast root for a winner...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Interesting, never seen those. A few things I don't like about that after looking for 5mins:

1) Aluminum follower die
2) It states "manual bender" (although shows a pump style ram)
3) Horizontal
4) Can't use mainstream dies if you want
5) Something I forgot 'cause Colin called me.

1. Yes it could be a better material, but it wont scar and he hasnt had any problems with it
2. He can set it up for a HF ram or something for no extra change IIRC
3. I like horizontal better. I learned to bend on one and such, so its mostly preference I guess
4. IF I found a reason why a 1.75" die wouldnt do everything I need, I would just get another one from him for short money (my first bend would be a full bend with 1.75 OD .120 to make a sleeve like Chris did for his to do 1.5" OD)

Theres a couple good threads about him on PBB. He later joined and posted more info about his benders and took some advice that people had made suggestions about. Overall, PBB seemed very happy with it and a Pirate approval is good enough for me.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I think Ross needs to learn that the statement "everything you see on the internet isn't true" also applies to the PBB. :D

Since when doesn't steel not scar up aluminum? One bur on that tube and every other piece you bend will have that mark in it as well.
Setting up the bender and being ready to go with air/hydro are two different things. So you really need to at $74.99+tax for the ram which puts to over the $500 mark.
Horizontal/Vertical, that's personal preference. I can't argue you there.

IMO, build one or get a Pro-Tools or JD2.

Bending vertically is the shit. So much easier to make room up instead of out.

The side bars on my exo were all 1 piece and would have been a monumental pain in the ass to do horizontally.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

time to go to the garage so i can drop the rear axle and get measurements fo my purchases tomorow

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

The more I remember it, that whole exo project was a pain in the ass.

Bending's weird. I do it just infrequently enough that I usually forget everything about it by the time the next project comes around. Couple that with working solo and you gotta find some pretty creative ways to accomplish things.

Somehow, by myself, I made this whole thing piece by piece, removed it off the top of the jeep, fully welded & painted, put it back on the jeep, and everything still lined up.

You just get in a zone and start crankin stuff out.

:bs: the internet never lies!!!

I meant Id rather have the follower get scared then the tube and simply clean it up every once in a while. Im not concerned about hydro anyways, I wanna put my Hulk power to good use.

If I was gunna be bending inside, Id probably look more into a vertical one, but my plan in to pour a small pad outside with a receiver mounted in it for the bender to be put on.

If Bill lets me borrow/play with his bender, then maybe Ill change my mind :D

That's what I had first...just a plain mechanical JD2 Model 3, on a concrete pad.

Fawkin miserable. No finer way to smother creativity than with a 10-foot pole on a ratcheting bender.

I did exactly 16 bends total on that setup before selling it.

Really? I had no problem/complaints about doing it with just the regular like 3' handle. Yeah it can kinda suck and drag out having to change pins, but dont you still have to do that anyways with your/Bill's type of bender too? :dunno: I guess in my eyes, I see doing it by hand as giving you better control for doing little adjustments and tweaks and such. I also have no experience using a hydro setup, simply all by hand on a horizontal and I was quite happy.

After looking around real quick, it looks like I coule step into a JD2 bender and die for under 600. Once I get closer to when Im ready to start doing all the cage stuff on my build, Ill start hunting around more and see what I come up with for prices and such. Ill weigh my options and see what route I fee like going. Maybe a cheaper package deal if Colin and somebody else wanted to get in on it.

Keep in mind something here. I weigh 130 lbs. Leverage is not something I have in excess.

Yeah you gotta change the pins, that's fine. I can get a 90 without re-pinning so it doesn't need to happen that often.

My ram is air/hydro...so in addition to having the air option available for 'automatic' bending, it has a regular jack pump handle for the hydro side. So the control is as fine as you'd need it to be...plus you can sit right next to it with your angle gauge and keep an eye on it.
