THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm too lazy to quote Adam's post about his being setup incorrectly, but what is setup wrong and what can't you get right?

for those that are unaware, I was a bicycle mechanic for almost 5 years...

giant warp ds one... not that color, and almost nothing stock.

i'm working at a bike shop now, and can fix stuff, but by no means a mechanic.

shifters are hard to move, i cant get to my biggest chainring in my rear derailleur (9 speed casette), front crank is a raceface ride XC and i can only use the top 2 rings (the BB isn't really the right size for the bike.. lol) both deraillers are deore XTs, shifters are deore LX.

other fun stuff = deore xt hubs, an old school marzocchi fork, and rockshox SID rear shock.

its a nice bike, though its a 16.5" and i'm 6' tall..

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

you guys make my POS bike look like more of a pile than i think it is with its self shifting derailleur under load, too small, etc

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

More like a blowout.

I tagged the corner of a storm drain hard as hell riding home from the bar on July 4th. Up til that point it was fine, that particular impact blew two gashes in the tube.

I went over all the spokes and the tire and everything seemed fine, so I put a new tube in it and went riding. Parked it for the night, went to go ride again the next day, and the new tube had blown out the same way. I'd ridden on it pretty hard all day and it was fine.

Just got frustrated with it and then we had a heat wave so I didn't want to ride anyway.
Hmm, I'd say check the tire to make sure there's no holes in the sidewall. Hard to say without seeing it...

Take the cable cover cap off and shoot some lube (not wd40) in there and work them back and forth. That will really help. LX shifters are pretty decent.

Just get the right size BB. If you order through QBP it shouldn't cost you more than $30-40 for a pretty good one.

I can't stress how big of a deal proper fit is... Consider buying a bare frame and swapping all the parts over.

I don't have a picture of mine handy, but it's a 2007 Gary Fisher Ferrous frame (hardtail steel) with all sram x-9, avid bb7's, raceface bars/stem/post/BB/crank/upgraded chainrings (I wore the first set out)/headset, bontragrager race lite disc wheelset wrapped in WTB exiwolfs, egg beater SL's, and a rock shox reba race 100mm fork. It weighs about 27 lbs... I wouldn't want to ride anything else unless I was freeriding. I friggin love the way this thing rides.

The frame is bright orange with almost nothing on it- like this:

When are your parts getting in?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Hell yeah, that's not a bad deal at all. I've never ridden one though. I really like the geometry of my Fisher...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

you guys make me want to get a bike but I don't know where to start. Driving through the Blue Hills daily makes me really want to pick one up. Getting my license about 11 1/2 years ended my biking days.

i loved the way my giant rode when i got it.. i was also four inches shorter.. lol never rode much anything else. my friend's hardtail niner, his 06? giant anthem (which i loved) my other friend's 09 cannondale full squish (rides nice, but not agressive enough) and my friend's old school full squish 6" iron horse. that thing was like a goddamn trophy truck, but heavy as hell.

go giant! my fave brand. but there are so many hybrid bikes that have mtb frames w road tires, more comfort, more fitness, more agressive... theres 0 compromise in where/how you ride in a bike anymore. drop 600 bucks and youll have a real nice commuter.

Ditto. I used to ride all the time and everywhere. Kinda miss it from time to time. And for me it hasn't quite been 11.5 years, more like 8.5, but same difference.

And my buddy had a giant (still has it somewhere, I think I saw it in his shed) and I had a Trek. That trek is still kicking around my house somewhere but my kid brothers have been using it and left it outside alot and I'm sure it's in a pretty beat state :( Oh well, only cost like $500 back in '01-'02ish I think, at least it's not like it's a $2000 bike

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

All this bike talk makes me sad. I was just thinking on my way home today that I should sell mine. I bought it mid summer from a dude who's girlfriend rode it once and stopped. I've only put about 20 miles myself and I just don't have the time anymore/ It's a 2009 Kona Fire Mountain 19" frame

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ross, you actually ride a mountain bike? I can't picture that.

You guys know there is a ton of good single trails all around the cape, many just a mile down the street from my house.
