im thinkin of colring the inside og the cooling jackets bright XXXXing green, keeping the cylinders bare then any other hole bright red, then a nice coat of clear

and id love to make the DD a 5spd or get a 5 spd xj but wheelin wise i perfer a auto at this point, there will be way to many levers to control with a 5spd

yeah, I do like the "push pedal mean GO :dunce:" aspect of an auto... but I've been having way too much fun driving standard on the road.

Neat idea on the paint, I say go for it.

if you decide to sell the transmission and it's in good shape I'll buy it. I'm not really certain I want to drive the auto jeeps anymore, have driven nothing but the massivemobile for 2 days. The red jeep with the manumatic work-in-progress is... well, ok I guess.

Well in the off chance that it is a 5-speed I will be keeping the trans since I know mine isn't happy right now; I know my trans should be replaced and the big question is whether or not the engine needs to be replaced as well... but if you want to spend the time & money rebuilding an AX-15 you are more than welcome to my old one :dunno: Hell there's actually a chance that the 'parts' XJ will become my DD if it's a 5-speed and in better shape than the seller made it sound like it was.

Another convert... I love rowing through the gears. At this point I am pretty sure I have passed up one too many awesome deals on Jeeps and other cars just because they were auto.. but if I did get an automatic I would hate driving it every day and would regret my decision, so hopefully this guy selling the cheap XJ likes his 5-speeds.

^ This. Toss a bottle of lucas oil add in when you do an oil cchange and call it a day, that's what I do. I change my oil by color or when my motor starts to get loud.

all 4.0's make wierd noises, run it till it blows then swap it, intill then wheel yo your rig, i garentee you the 4.0 will be the least of your worries

I plan on wheeling next wkend . My transmission is my only major concern right now, hopefully it holds up to the trip.

4.0 is torn apart except for the oil filter adapter, at some point this week the block will be taken to the carwash to be cleaned then i will spray bomb it black and turn it into a coffee table

i THINK i might have some left, i believe you can get cheapie sand at HF since its a cheapie blaster we can just grab the bit up at lowes when the time comes. well plow the first h2 out later this week.

same, which is why I don't change my oil, the MJ's oil is cleaner now than it was 5 minutes after it was last changed in like October. Probably because it leaks so much that I've added upwards of 30 quarts at this point... just keeps flushing crap out through the RMS.

Neither of the other jeeps has been driven enough to actually need an oil change unless you do that silly 3 month change crap.

I may well end up clearing the brush from the sides and overhead using the massivemobile, so no worries on scratching your pretty paint

(either that or I'm swapping a transmission some night this week, the 96 is overheating badly and it has a new radiator and otherwise seems fine and I KNOW the trans is going, so it's probably causing it)

The only wheeling I have and ever will do in the CTD was pulling Bill's XJ up a logging road in 2nd gear at 2500 rpms in 4HI.

It was awesome

haha, ok that works - if we do it tomorrow, it'll be the fourth day in a row I have driven nothing but the massivemobile :firedevil thursday is out for me, car show then, but tomorrow or wednesday works. Great news on the job, not so much on the trip.

Your computer is that old? Weird, even as an intern I got top of the line equipment and got to do my own linux install on it right off the bat. Our lab was pretty awesome, almost everything was open source, we had a couple windows machines we used just to check our email and write presentations etc.

Man... time to bend over for the surplus parts dealer again. Strangely the prices are about on par with rockauto/other places for "normal" vehicle parts, I'm just plain not used to paying new-part prices instead of junkyard/part-out prices.
