where were people getting mini heims to build transfer case shifter links? I can't find the post anywhere, I want to build a better link for my height sensing valve because I just know that thing is getting ready to fall off, the plastic clips at each end are really loose

ken, coming from someone who has done a WJ swap, don't bother. please please please just go get a D44. it's comparable money, just requires a little more fab work.

I'm not commenting on the D30/D44/D60/D80/14b super extra steering whatever debate again. My position has been stated several times.

However, these are the rod ends i got for the t-case linkage. Worked excellent. Anthony posted the number while I was digging in my order history, here's the link.

but they will do for just linkage.

As Eric mentioned the local hardware store also has them in other sizes if you don't want to pay shipping on $14 worth of rod ends.

Here we go again...

Problem with going to a D44 is that you have to make the big leap all at once.

With a D30 you can do the WJ swap, then your gears, etc.

With a D44 you also have to do something about the rear axle (bolt pattern) and your wheels (not that wheels are too expensive).

Not saying don't do it, but there are other things to think about. I'd have gone straight to a D44 if I had to do it again, but I also knew I'd be running 35s.

Considered/considering it... but I already have a 30 with 4.10s in it, I am not going past 33s, I already have wheels, I already have most of the WJ parts, etc etc.

I'm gonna check if the local Ace Hardware has them over lunch break, this stuff does NOT need to be strong at all (in fact it can be way weaker than even transfer case linkage stuff.) The stock plastic clips are like a TRE that literally clips shut over the ball and managed to last 19 years before they fell off.

Yeah... basically I'm looking at it and realizing that I have zero intent of ever going past 33s, I already have the axle, I already have the knuckles and the balljoints, literally the only things left to buy are the JKS steering+spacers and rotors/pads. It also makes my geek ghettofab attempt at an electronic poor man's locker easy since the WJ knuckles have mounting points for the tone ring pickups already present, being a stock application and all.

Pssh. Wheel with us long enough and that will change. :laugh: I originally never wanted over 33s either. I think that goes for most of us here. My situtation was a little different and I made the HUGE jump, but I think I still would have ended up here eventually.

At Lynde Hardware there in Gardner or somewhere else? Lynde has always been a little bit more money, but they have a great selection so it is usually worth the money to not have to run 3 different places finding something to save the $2.

see, i'm not trying to pretend that i'm never going past 33s. i'll just keep my turdy threes for now since i did buy them new, wheel the shit out of them, and depending on where i land in the next year or so, build more accordingly. it sounded good from this phone interview with raytheon el paso, at their depot level facility. she is only interviewing one other person later today and will have her decision later this week. so for all i know, i may land in west texas / mexico for a while, and build the XXXXer for desert racing. atriot:

I'm definitely not. I meant to stay on 32s, but couldn't find them for less money than the treadwright 33s I got. Heck, I only got the 32s because they were cheaper than the 31s I was seeing... at this point once I wear the 33s out, I'm getting the cheapest 32s/33s I can find.

I haven't actually wheeled since I was stock. Hell, I never even intended to lift the damn thing, you guys are a terrible influence. Now I've poured a ton of money into it and have two of them, back when I showed up here all I wanted to do was fix what I already had... dammit!

As far as hardware stores... hopefully Robinson's Ace Hardware will have what I'm looking for. Really all it's got to do is turn a brake proportioning valve that's about as hard to move as a light switch, and stay in place when I hit potholes.

As soon as I stop breaking things I'll be joining the wheeling, I'm running out of things to break. First was that damn LCA bracket, then my tires were too bald, then my transmission blew up when I put the new tires on... the only things left are driveshafts, control arms, transfer case, and engine, and I have spares of those to keep Murphy working in my favor.

EDIT: that being said, I really love welding poop pipe into frames... this generator/compressor project has been all kinds of fun. It allows me to have all the fun of building a buggy without the wallet pains that come from actually doing that. I actually enjoy building stuff more than using it most of the time.

I said the same, when i first got my 33s I thought they were plenty big. I haven't gone much bigger yet, but I know it's in the plans for a year or 2 down the line... just not sure when it's going to happen. Hopefully not too soon.

I was there last year. I think at that point I was still in denial since I didn't want to drop $$$ into regearing.

I'm definitely not. I meant to stay on 32s, but couldn't find them for less money than the treadwright 33s I got. Heck, I only got the 32s because they were cheaper than the 31s I was seeing... at this point once I wear the 33s out, I'm getting the cheapest 32s/33s I can find.

I intend to wheel 33s for another set of tires after the one I have now and then by that time I will be out of school and I'll get a tow rig. Then make the jump to 44s, 5.13s, and 35s.

Scott, give that link to Jordan... I'm pretty sure he is looking for a new motor for his MJ right now. A driving vehicle would be a nice donor.

As for people being old men, I'm pretty sure Bill is the same age Colin and I are, give or take?
