Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

where is he?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So it looks like my jeeps are gaining more and more WJ parts... XJ is going to get WJ steering/front brakes and two WJ ABS modulators if I ever get that project finished, MJ is getting a WJ master cylinder and booster. If I ever replace the XJ's master cylinder and booster it'll get another WJ one, and then the brakes on it will be 75% WJ, 5% unknown vehicle, and 20% Ford.

Scott - I spent some time reading up on WJ knuckle swaps just now and it looks like I need 00-01 XJ unit bearings to make it work, and I'm going to need tone rings to make my traction control system work. Any chance you'd want to swap those shafts you got for a set of nearly rust free large-joint shafts with 99.5-down unit bearings on them already? Joints are in great shape, unit bearings seemed great too, I'll have to check again but they came out of an axle I got with almost all the factory paint still on it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Sure, I'd be glad to swap them out if it saves both of us time/a headache.

And I just found out that nature hates me and/or my Jeep. It was nice and sunny for the past couple hours, occasional clouds and/or maybe a few rain drops, but not much (it was so little that the driveway was almost dry). Anyway, I decided to pull the Jeep into the driveway and start mocking it up the center console. I get all the tools and stuff out, pull my Ebrake assembly, was ready to pull out the welder to touch up my hinge and weld a plate over the hole from the old ebrake... and it starts pouring (I was sitting in the passenger seat with the door off). I worked through the rain and stayed mostly dry. Then I started needing more space (i.e. working outside the Jeep & welding) so I just figured what I need from the hardware store and put it off until tomorrow. Cleaned up the tools, pulled the Jeep back down the driveway. And walked into the house... it immediately stopped raining. :smsoap: wtf

Oh and I found out that wet grass is slicker than pavement :D Turning up the driveway I cut the inside tire onto the lawn. Well with the locker the inside tire matched the outside tire speed and, well, spun a bit on the lawn  whoops, thankfully I haven't put the swampers on yet so the A/Ts I got now didn't tear it up too bad.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

went wheeling this morning, and my driver rear door now has a nice matching dent like my passenger rear door, and we went back to the trail that kicked the shit out of my first transmission and i peed on the drain pipe which did it in. JUSTICE!!

Ken if you want just the unit bearings from 99.5 up I have a pair from upgraded shafts I'm not using. I figure I can bring them to the JY saturday. Make an offer bc I have no use for them and have too many parts sitting around as it is. I think one of them doesn't have wheel studs on it.
Edit. Just saw you're doing a swap with themangeraad... nevermind unless ya really need em.

hmm... will have to consider it. I will probably need/want some spares around either way; my spare shafts are also 99.5-down style and I'd rather be able to carry spare shafts with unit bearings already installed.

I just hope that 00/01 XJ tone rings match up with the WJ ABS pickups, I should have checked that when I was at the yard. Oops.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Speaking of the JY. Ken, are you heading down to the M&G next wkend? I'm not sure if I will be making it, so if you are would you care to snag me a V8 ZJ front shaft if the prices are pretty good?

I'll bring them with me on Saturday either way. I learned the hard way they won't fit. :gee: Put it all together and boom my truck wouldn't move. I had completely forgot about it. I need to pull at least one 99.5 down while I'm there because one of the ones I tried replacing is shot.

Yeah, unless the MJ breaks down in a serious sort of way, I'll be going. I'll keep my eye out, though I think the price quoted was $25 in the thread; Sam's charges $20 though the vehicles are all on the ground and have been forklifted so you have to check carefully to see if the shaft is dented/bent.

 that sucks. Luckily I found out here on the internets before I went to get my replacement shafts at the junkyard so I got the right ones.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Napa's website has gone to sh*t.

I could not find any of the CCV crap on theirs for a '91.

I searched for the parts #'s you posted Ken for a '90 off that page you linked to, and that is completely different since its for a renix. The Mopar numbers are useless because I can't find mopar crap anywhere.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah, I discovered that too :smsoap: I thought I posted that or updated with an edit, must have forgotten to.

The mopar numbers should work on mopardiscountparts.com but those prices are pretty lame compared to aftermarket even though they usually beat the dealership by ~30%.

I put my front VC tube back into the airbox grommet and secured it with a ziptie :gee: and I only run through a quart of oil every 300-500 miles now instead of 150 miles, so I haven't really done much to fix it since then.

EDIT: also, looks like OverlandXJ just ripped pyrothugg a new one too... I don't think I've ever seen him say a cross word to anyone so I suspect he's got a really good reason. Yikes.

That's the big reason I asked if you would keep an eye out. Most of the ones in that yard looked like they might not have been forklifted around so if I can get one that I know is good I will pay the extra 5$ or whatever (plus whatever labor/delivery fee may be incurred).

Edit: Do most business in MA have work tomorrow? I am trying to figure out if my customer has work... if they don't then there is no reason for me to go in...

you still may have to take a angle grinder to make a lil room for the allen heads
