THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Sorry Keith, hope you're doing alright.

Speaking of next wkend... does anyone have a bearing puller and/or bearing press plus a couple hours to give me a hand? Apparently one part of the disk brake swap I am doing is to add a bearing spacer (which the instructions say should be done professionally )

I would love to be able to pull the current bearings and re-use them since I think they were done a few years ago, but I don't mind buying new bearings if needed. Regardless I will still need a puller/press (or someone who is good at "pressing" in bearings with a mallet :D). I should be able to have all of the work done up to the point where the bearings need to be pulled/installed before I need any help/tools, so it shouldn't take long. And I will have food/beer on hand.
.

If you are talking about doing disks on a D44, forget about a bearing puller and being able to reuse the bearings. No way you are getting the metal collar off without cutting it, and without screwing up the old bearing.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So it had a tailgate but with no latch? Was is it in good condition?
well... I have the handle for the latch in my possession (I needed one.) The rest was fairly beat up but looked rust free. Want me to yank it and hide it somewhere tomorrow morning if I wake up early enough?

Deader than dead in here today.
haha, whole bunch of us were out chopping trees at RC

Tried that... the only "bar" I had one me though was my 3/8" extension. That folded over nicely :gee: When I go back next wkend I will likely bring something a bit more substantial.

Good call... but at the same time I will still need to get that nut off in order to pull the shaft, and I feel like getting that nut off when the assembly is not in an XJ (or somethign to hold it still) would be a major PITA. I think I will try and break it free next wkend but if I cannot get it off then I may end up taking that approach. Not to mention I am sure I would get charged more if I did this, rather than just taking the shaft).
My trick for those - grab a random spare, stand it upright, stick the lugs through the spare, put a couple lugnuts on finger tight to hold it, sit on spare, go to town with a big ass breaker bar and cheater bar. Mine popped right off after about 30 seconds that way.

I'd say if the hub is good and you're just looking to upgrade to the bigger u joints just pull the whole thing and slide it right into yours. You can then keep your current ones whole as trail spares that way you can just pull em if you break something and slide the spare right in with a lot less work. Idk what your plans are for them though.
X2. That's what I did.

Ah yea don't blame ya for not wanting to pay for an unknown condition part. Just to let you know the hub doesn't need to come off to replace the u joints. It takes a little bit more handling bc of the weight of the hub but no need to take it off.
Same... I was gonna swap my unit bearing over and then I pulled out my old shaft and realized there was 1/16" of play in the unit bearing, so I just threw the new shaft in whole, couldn't really be much worse.

Quick question for anyone to answer to make sure I'm understanding this brake booster/ master cylinder upgrade. Ok so obviously I am going to need the booster/mc from a 95/96. From my readings that seems most compatible (going into a 94 btw). And I am going to need 4 fittings for the lines that run to the proportioning valve. Install and bam good brakes again. Am I missing anything here. I know there might be small modifications necessary to the rod for the switch and possibly use spacers on the firewall but just want to double check bc I keep getting confused bc a majority of the writeups are for renix.

Edit. Basing majority of my assumptions on this thread here. http://naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=63067&highlight=booster Thread also contains the part numbers for the fittings.
I think the lines on the MC are that screwy annoying bubble flare, so I'd take the booster and prop valve out as a single unit, they probably won't charge any more for that anyways. That way everything you touch is just standard double flares.

working on daily drivers sucks. my ranger has needed a tune up, a speed sensor and rear brakes for 2 years. and the positive battery cable is held on with vice grips
hahaha that's great, never seen vise grips used that way. My MJ could use about the same work (no rear brakes, 208k with unknown age plugs/cap/rotor, oil soaked air filter, speed sensor cable needs a large number of zipties so it doesn't hang on the exhaust anymore.)

Started my day of good by making $75 to do pads and one rotor on a Chebby Tahoe:thumbup: Then it was ruined by finding out your Grandmother passed away while you're at work :thumbdn:
that sucks :( sorry to hear it

Thanks guys. She's been in the hospital for a while now and it was only a matter if time before it happened. We all knew it and were ready. Last night around 11 my aunt said goodnight and she was all set and fine, then this morning her lung filled up with fluid and eventually colaped for the 3rd time. We just let nature take it's course and let her sleep. Worste is I havn't seen her since Christmas but I'd rather see her the was she was at Christmas than how she was in the hospital living via machines. Crazy old lady would kill a 30 rack and a carton of butts in a day.
Aside from the smoking/drinking, sounds like my grandfather... he passed a month or two ago. He had alzheimers and dementia, same deal, we'd been expecting it for some time and there wasn't much we could do. During one of his lucid moments he decided enough was enough, apparently, stopped eating voluntarily and just... slipped away. For some reason the fact that it was his choice made it a lot easier for me.

No, on a 9". Not sure if it's any different but I am prepared to spend the money on bearings. Plan on having NAPA or advanced order them depending on what brands they carry. Then I will have them on hand incase I need them. If I dont need them I will return 'em. Speaking of which, who carries the best bearings?

My trick for those - grab a random spare, stand it upright, stick the lugs through the spare, put a couple lugnuts on finger tight to hold it, sit on spare, go to town with a big ass breaker bar and cheater bar. Mine popped right off after about 30 seconds that way.
that just confused me...

That's what I plan on doing... taking the prop valve with it as soon as I find a 95/96 to steal parts from. I am just torn on whether or not to go with a ZJ prop or just take the internals out of the XJ one and have 50/50 front/rear braking.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

OK... put the shaft/unit bearing/axle entrails into your spare tire as if they were both on the vehicle. Throw a couple lug nuts on, stand the tire upright, sit on it to keep it from moving, screw around with breaker bar. Profit!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

The nice roof we were going to cut off and try to sell to Travis for when his jeep gets rolled again?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Hahah, Travis actually asked me before I even said anything about the roof if i could cut off the quarter panels so he could used them as quarter panel guards.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i think thats the right one. but i got mine from MSC and it has 6 things to grab the spindle. i kniw it doesnt get torqued a lot but i figure it cant hurt

buut that is only 10 bux...mine was 30ish i think

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

he should just skin the whole jeep with the whole shell, double up the thickness of everything

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

my tax return is pending deposit. shweeet. :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i did actually get some crap done on my jeep too. if you're lucky there might be an update tonight.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I left approximately 4-5 quarts of oil on the road on the way to PA and back, it seems... oil was near full when I left for PA, put 3 quarts in when I got there to bring it back to full, needs another couple quarts now.

leaky RMS + plugged CCV system = awesome!

If I park it for more than 5 minutes I can see the outline of the frame rails and tranny crossmember on the ground... from the oil drips.
