THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I looked out like 10 min later and he was still going. It looked like he drove over some roots cause the thing started rockign around a bit. I thought of that :laugh3: I think he may have his grandkids over and they wanted to ride around... but why does he have a golf kart in the first place?

Probably a rogue runaway golfer... he didn't get that birdie on the 9th hole and that's it... he cracked.. who would of knew that guy was your neighbor. hahahaha

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

hm... about time I went back outside and got this thing squared away. I probably should have bought some ratchet straps while I was at home depot.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Off to the JY. The question is whether I want to head to everetts or try the self serve pull yard down in freetown.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

damn that stuff is expensive, but looks really nice.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

T-case is in, filled with dextron merc 3 or what ever it wants to be called, and the jeep drives SMOOTH! Just no 4wd at the moment. :(

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i gotta send em a email for some reason of i orderd o would of been charged utah sales tax, WTF, and the shippin sounds a lil steep at 70, hell the shippin for my atas is the same

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I have leaks? Can't be true  Care to elaborate on what/where so I can fix then? :)

And yeah, I knew she was up on the lift so I kindof factored that in (though I did think that the tie rod would have to be dropped from the drag ling to install the gears... my bad).. but I didn't think it would have that much of an affect on the steering. There is definitely a noticeable difference in handling before/after the regear and I don't think it's something that would have changed due to the axle swap or locker. Don't get me wrong I am not giving Bob any sh*t on this one... I am more inclined to believe that if anything it is just a poor/old alignment plus old/sh*tty parts causing my issues. Hope to have that fixed by the end of the wkend

Right now I am just working on figuring out what is wrong in the drivetrain that gave me the strange coasting sounds I was hearing. Will be making several drives around town and such tomorrow to continue the break in... going to try and figure it out when I have some light.

5 months?!? Mine took 2-3 weeks which I thought felt like forever... but that was because parts weren't playing nice. Where are you getting 5 months from?

Edit: And because I don't feel like searching I will ask here :).. for installing a SYE, the rear pinon should be set to just a hair lower than the line pointing towards the output yoke, right? I gotta pick up some shims soon so I am trying to figure my angles out.

I have no idea where the leaks just that I had speedi dry at diff spots under it.

As for the axles I know what was done because I'm the one who stripped them down and put the 9" together. Bob did the gears in both and put the D30 together. If he took the tierod off I didn't see it and even so it would have just been bolted back down. He did drive it around the building but when he got to the stop sign and it didn't really wanna stop he turned it around and brought it back. Other then that I can't tell you much else. Being up on the lift with the axle hanging down could have just shown you that either the draglink or tracbar has wear. If you still run in to problems Bob is definitely good for advice.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Hey guess what, the Bendix ABS system in the Blairwitch is leaking. Who would have guessed that would have failed.

Looks like green Jeep is no longer getting worked on.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So that junkyard is pretty nice, everything is up on 18" risers so none is in the mud/dirt. Prices seemed alright, got quoted like $20 for a caliper, $15 for backing plate and caliper bracket, etc, $30 for brake booster & master cyl. Problem was they closed at 2 and I got there at 1:45 :banghead: back tomorrow to get parts I guess. Their XJ selection sucked pretty bad though, only one XJ that I could find and then a few ZJs.

I also almost bough an MJ that was in their lot for $1000, 4.0, 4x4, automatic, rust free. Real nice. It was already on hold for someone and apparenly it had been beat offroad a bit... but then again I only wanted it for the straight/rust free body so drivetrain issues woudlnt have been a problem.

Hmmm, strange, I never have any spots on my driveway :dunno: I'll have to look around at it.

And that's strange then, I guess just being up on the lift with the axle hanging must have just been the last thing that killed the already old ends. I am trying to decide how I want to go with my steering.

I am almost thinking about doing a tie rod with heims and making up a drag link with heims as well. Follow the same lines that it has stock but just use some beefy tube and heims instead of TREs. Either that or just get the MOOG TREs at advanced and call it a day until I swap out the D30

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Moog TRE's FTW. The one I replaced with a crappy tre (at the pitman) is giving me trouble after only 8 months of being on there.
So I was going to go pick up that 750 dollar Jeep today and I'm 3/4's of the way there and bam. Guy calls and says he is now giving it away to his sister. FAWK! I'd never be that nice to my sister. Personally I woulda rather taken the cash.

Mark I have one if you need it. Send me a pic and I can see if it's the same.

Scott did you go to Freetown? Did you check to see if they are open on Sunday?

I hopefully will get a lot accomplished in the next few days seeing as how I was suspended from work indefinitely on Friday.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Thanks bump, but I actually had planned on doing the dual diaphragm booster swap into it after the green jeep was driving again, as I have Travis's old booster and master.

Looks like that has gotten moved up on the list of things to do.

Yes, went to Freetown. They are open from like 9-2 on sat/sun IIRC, I know they close at 2 just not %100 sure on what time they open. All the cars were up on stands like this:

And what happened with the job? that sucks man.

Anyone want a uhaul trailer hitch (w/o hardware)? Figure I would offer it here before I put it on the classifieds. Come get it and it's yours.

I know I have asked this before but I am still a bit confused on it.. what years dual diaphragm brake booster will work on the early XJs? I heard some saying it's only 95/96 that will swap in. Other said any year will. Others said any year but 97+ need to have the shafts swap (and that swapping the shafts is a PITA). I have also heard any year ZJ will...

Anyone care to tell me what would work? I thought it was only 95 or 96 XJ booster that was a direct swap and you need the metal shim that fits between the booster and firewall...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Finished the MJ entirely... new axle is now in! It's Sam's old axle that was about 10 feet in the air at one point, the balljoints are a little beat but my BFH appears to have solved the camber problem it had. Also, new shocks/control arms/springs/tie rod/brakes/lug nuts. I gotta head for the home depot parking lot and give it an alignment and it's DONE! (till I replace the transmission, rear axle, add a transfer case, put the headliner back in, etc...)

If it aint one, it's the other... I know the feeling. I just got done fighting with rusty '91 brake parts myself. Had to replace about 6" of rusty line on the passenger front and did the standard "perform perfect double flare in very tight working space only to discover that you forgot to put the flare nut on first" screwup. GOD I hate when I do that :smsoap:

That really sucks, hope things work out.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

got a bit done on mine today. cut out one rocker and the bottom of the doors. got a set of rollers via ned/travis/mark/sam  and i got the rear axle mounted with the shackles in the leaf springs. i decided to just say eff it and grind em down. pics later. going out for the night now.

edit: i forgot, i took the rest of the interior out. i got out all seat bolts but the rear left on the driver's side. oh well. not bad for all the rest of my rust. that brings the count to 4 bolts that i've broken on the dissasembly stage. (3 rear shock bolts, 1 seat bolt)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Oh yeah, that reminds me... as expected I had to cut the frame end UCA bolts. Luckily I managed to find the spares I had around. The nuts were rusted so badly they weren't even close to hexagonal anymore.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So not spending much time at the JY today ended up working out for the best. Stopped in at advanced auto and got some chrome/metal polish wadding and went to town on the bike. Looks a bit better. Then went and rode around for a while. Stopped by the bar for a beer and some wings, and just got home. I freaking love this weather. I also found out that the pseudo leather jacket I bought is loose fitting, I.e. a parachute at highway speed. Note to self: do not wear that jacket if I intend to ride on the highway at all :gee: All in all the bike is running beautifully, much better than I was expecting. Got the tires properly inflated and it handles much better than it did on my 'first ride of the season' yesterday, though it does look like I should be investing in a new front (and probably rear) tire soon. Time to start shopping. Too bad the selection sucks for my bike since it has cruiser size wheels... i.e. they dont make many/any performance tires for that wheel size anymore :(
