THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

got a bit done on mine today. cut out one rocker and the bottom of the doors. got a set of rollers via ned/travis/mark/sam  and i got the rear axle mounted with the shackles in the leaf springs. i decided to just say eff it and grind em down. pics later. going out for the night now.

edit: i forgot, i took the rest of the interior out. i got out all seat bolts but the rear left on the driver's side. oh well. not bad for all the rest of my rust. that brings the count to 4 bolts that i've broken on the dissasembly stage. (3 rear shock bolts, 1 seat bolt)

OMG U GRINDED DOWN THE BUSHINSSS!?

i drove 200ish miles today

got a skid plate
got hot dogs
got a 95 4.0 with 130k miles

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Gah, I'm sitting here trying to talk myself out of picking up a set of dunlop elite3's for the bike. So close to pulling the trigger.... I think that may be my gift to myself whenever the tax returns come in.

Edit: Trying to decide if I should go for a half hour drive around town to break in the gears or not. Part of me wants to wait until I replace the TREs or whatever is making the steering scary.

So question for people who know more about the properties of metals. I know that heating and bending it will weaken it, I'm just not sure how much.

I.e. I was thinking about buying Rob's tie rod with heims instead of buying new TREs which would cost me just as much (for Moogs). If I did that I was wondering if I could fab up a drag link using heims as well. Doesn't seem like it would be all that hard except for where the tie rod meets the drag link. I though about doing crossover steering but rob pointed out that the tie rod would be way low (still being stubborn and thinking about doing it though :laugh3:). If I did try to make an inverted Y setup using heims, the hardest part would probably be making flat points in the drag link to drill through and bolt the tie rod to. I thought of a couple things.. either getting some 1/2" wall stuff and just grinding it down a bit, or heating it up and using a hammer & anvil to flatten it out just enough to have a flat spot to bolt through and mount the tie rod heim to. I thought about using 5/8" hiems and 1.5" x 7/16" wall tube (if they even make that size) if I did the 'heat and hammer' method.

So who can tell me why this would be a horrible idea? Or if it's not THAT absurd of an idea then I guess I am getting better

how much lift are you curently running?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

ima go make two dana 0s out of that dana 0 I just pulled

via this excellent math I arrive at the conclusion that 2wd beam axles are worth just as much cut in half as they are in one piece, or rather worth just as little in one piece as they are cut in half

(but more durable than a dana 35, you'll never break a ring&pinion, spin the tubes, or snap an axleshaft, and they're full floaters!)

Not quite sure. I have to go take a dirty measurement tomorrow. I think it was 3.5" give or take a bit. I then put the bumper on up front and it appears to have sagged a bit. Need to re-measure. I would say that I am planning on ending up in the 3.5"-4.5" range though (4.5" is the highest I want to go, end of story)

keep things simple just get a new factory draglink, if you really want hi steer then get a drag link for a RHD xj and go OTK on the pass side

I dont necessarily want hi-steer though I wouldn't say no to it.

I was thinking of doing cross over and mounting both the tie rod and the drag link above the knuckle on the passenger side but I am not sure if that would result in high stresses and breaking since the drag link would be that much higher. (I.e. put a bolt up through the knuckle, then through a heim for the tie rod, then through a missalignment & heim for the drag link... topped off with a lock or castle nut). If I did do this it would also allow me to play with draglink angles a bit and maybe improve them. I think I have seen people talk about it somewhere around here before, I just don't remember if the talk was a "yeah it will be fine" or a "holy christ are you dumb? dont do that!" type of thing

Otherwise I was just going to more or less duplicate the factory set up but do it all with 1.25 or 1.50 tube and heims to make it a bit more heavy duty.

Edit: So I am now shopping and figure if I am going to be replacing my drag link anyway, I might as well go with a RHD one to go OTK. There any special way to search for RHD parts on, say, advanced auto's website? :dunno:

The Bendix system is all out, but I have absolutely NO more motivation to continue ripping stuff off the red jeep (I need to use a few parts from there) and keeping on going.

Balls.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Maybe I will just replace my steering with stock stuff or do the RHD swap. Maybe my steering just sh*t the bed on me cause I used sh*tty parts last time I replaced them. I just hate replacing stuff with stock parts.. I would rather put in the effort and make my Jeep better by doing something to... make it better

I havent been to Lynn woods in a loooong time.
I do remember this place in Mass called vietnam. They had wooden raised ramps and see-saw stunts and all that jazz.
Id like to go ride soon.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

If the weather is OK I'm probably hiking Monadnock tomorrow around 11 with some of the crew, anyone who wants to should go... looks like 30% chance of rain though.

Fawking C4C. That is the EXACT Jeep I was looking for. No power options (maybe has power door locks, idk), 5 speed, 2 dr... nope, it was traded in, engine was killed, and it now can't be sold as a full vehicle. I won't even start on a rant. :smsoap:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Just an FYI for Keith, I would use ONLY Dex/Merc III in the AW4 and I would use it in ANY transfer case as well (probably not as important here but as Mark said, I'm pretty sure it calls for it).
