Mark's pic amazes me because I'm pretty sure I can see one of the roller bearings in there SIDEWAYS. I can only imagine the heat and sound that must have been produced when that one ended up at the top of the race.

Yep, you can see the sideways bearing. I have a picture on my computer at home of all the dust and shavings that the bearing produced.
I drove that vehicle last summer, and the unit bearing was toast, and I mean screaming, way back in July. I told her she really needed to have it changed, and soon.
Fast forward to sept/oct, I get a call from her telling me her ABS light was on. (ABS sensor is in unit bearing, that got taken out and tripped the light). I told her alright, I'll be home that weekend, and I'll take a look then.
Two days later, I get a phone call, she says it sounds and feels like her tire is going to fall off. I could hear the damn thing through the phone, while she was inside driving it.
I jacked it up when I got home, and holy crap was all I could say when I could move the tire around.

Not more than 1-2 months ago I was saying I should just buy a plot of land somewhere as cheap as possible and build a relatively large garage on the ground floor and build a 1-2 bedroom apt type of deal upstairs... I will leave it at "do want":
