THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Haha yeah that's why I brought it up. I'm thinking about doing it and just reusing it on the MJ. Thoughts on assist vs. full hydro?
Thats up to you dude. I know I couldn't fit the draglink with the way my arms had to be to clear the H1s. I was pretty much forced into it. Plenty of people run just assist with no issues though.
If you were buying a pump and a good ram, it might not be worth the money to do the assist. At that point there isn't much cost difference to the full shebang.

Someone's jealous...

:D
I know right? :laugh2:

Ahh man, and I just changed my sig line today too.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I should have the parts to put the d30 in the MJ by middle of next week :yelclap:

* BFH and angle finder to bring camber back into spec
* UCA bushings and brake hoses from Jeff
* WJ LCAs from the junkyard
* V8 ZJ tie rod just because, well, I'm sure as hell not putting the crappy OEM one back on
* Sam's old front axle (yeah, the MJ is gonna be rollin' on an axle that's been ten feet in the air...)
* calipers and rotors from RockAuto
* new front shocks because now the spring perches will be in good enough shape to not collapse with real shock absorbers
* the old stock front coils out of my XJ because the ones on the MJ are rusted so badly I'm afraid they're going to break

I'll be waiting to actually convert it to 4wd, but at least it'll be partway there.

I'm gonna be refreshing the UPS tracking page a lot, I think

Assist
- cheaper ram
- pump
- lines

Full hydro
- double ended ram
- pump
- lines
- orbital

I would think the orbitals are expensive...? PSC sells theirs starting at $345. Double ended rams are about $100 more.

EDIT: I left out building a draglink/tierod. So you're right, probably about the same.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yeah, just get a ram with the 8" stroke for a 60, and have PSC limit it to 6.5" or whatever it is for a 44... then just pull it off and mount all the junk on the 60 when the time comes

fwiw, Full hydro has always had one major downfall IMHO, which is if you cut a line you've got no steering. I guess it's not such a big deal if you want to carry spare lines etc, but assist is nice just because the linkage itself is always there as a backup in case the hydro side of things bails on ya

X2. Spare fluid, too, it'd suck to put it back together and realize you still can't steer and need more fluid.

also how are you gonna steer if you have a non running engine with full hydro?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

mhmmm :noddinghead:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

? You can fill full hydro from the steering pump reservoir...?
I know... just saying, bring fluid for it.

witnessed this with Corey in his TJ at gretchen's last summer.

Watching them tow that thing out with him attempting to steer was TERRIBLE. He had to bump the starter every now and then to get the wheels turned even slightly.

its prob the biggest reason im goin with assist

plz don't hate me when your tires start cupping and you are pissing out gear oil

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm thinking this...

$399
http://www.pscmotorsports.com/pk1652-9506-40-jeep-high-volume-pump-kit-p-833.html

And this...

$172
http://www.pscmotorsports.com/sc2200k-15-x-8-cylinder-assist-steering-cylinder-kit-p-125.html

Figure out hoses/fittings once I mock it up.

I might try to get away with a stock pump at first (drill out the pressure fitting).

how about surplus center style? :dunno:

(1) 1.5x8x.75 ram

https://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=2009111720121025&item=9-4410-08&catname=hydraulic

(2) hydro lines 1/4 npt x 36"

https://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=2009111720121025&catname=hydraulic&qty=1&item=916-1436

(2) 3/8 to 1/4 npt adapters

https://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=2009111720121025&catname=hydraulic&qty=1&item=9-1938

(4) swivel fittings

https://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=2009111720121025&catname=hydraulic&qty=1&item=9-1922

EDIT: total of about $115 plus shipping, and you get the lines etc with. only down fall is no mounting tabs/heims etc. but tabs are easily made, and you can work with the ends that are on that ram, i'm sure...

hahaha, no worries. The price was right! :looney: Also note first item on my parts list - "BFH and angle finder to beat on it till camber is set right". If that doesn't work out, I'll gut the damn thing for spare shafts + knuckles and pick up another one.

I may not be Ross but I can summon some Hulk force when needed :gee:

EDIT: I have a spare set of tires I really hate (terrible traction in, well, everything or anything) I'll probably run on the front till I figure out if I beat on it enough.
