THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i now need a new wheel for my bike. riding to school this morning i was sorta pushed into the curb at like 5mph from some guy in a ram that didn't see me (his fault? my fault? who cares), and it knocked me off balance a bit so when i managed to stop i slowly fell over. dude gave me a ride to school since he felt bad, but now it's time i suppose to upgrade to aluminum wheels so i can actually stop in the rain!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

..but i'll be making like $150 - $200 doing the clutch for a friend's roommate's cherokee tonight / tomorrow so i suppose that'll pay for a nice new set of wheels for my bike

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

nah i dont want to crash, i know a bunch of people who have gotten pretty hurt hitting cars. i don't think that guy knew how wide his truck was - my shoulder pushed in his mirror and crap.

.... maybe i should have gotten some money out of him, for my now bent wheel (which didn't appear bent at the time)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Hmmmm, so I think a rear disk swap is in order. Is it just 95 or 95/96 brake boosters that are direct swaps for older XJs?

And does anyone have one that they want to sell me? :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

any dual diaphragm booster will work. You can even grab one from a ZJ or WJ. I have first hand experience that both work for older XJ's

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I just sold/traded mine from the 95 to Mark for some 97+ parts. I don't think they're very expensive new though?

I thought that they needed modification if they were any year other than 95 or 95/96.... Maybe not, I coulda sworn I read that the only direct bolt in swap was the booster from a 95/96 and you have to use the shim thing to mount the booster at the right angle to work.

Edit: and they are like $100 before getting $20 back for core charge. Might be worth getting new. At least that's the price autozone quoted since NAPA didn't list a prce on their website for it. and same price at advanced, so 80-100 depending if they will take my 93 booster for a core.

I'd just get a WJ booster and master. You'll save money in the long run and know that they work. Some new masters are junk out of the box. BLAH BLAH BLAH.

All you have to do is bend a pinch seem at the firewall to make room for the booster and then make new brake lines that go from the master to the prop valve. Oh and trim the rod that goes into the passenger compartment so the brake switch is engaged at the right time.

Awesome, thanks. I have a feeling I can figure it out. And I have steel and a hammer laying around if I can't. Are you saying get WJ booster & master new or from JY?

And I think the hardest sounding part of that (or biggest PITA part at least) is trimming the rod to the correct length. Just pull off the end and trim away or is there an art to it? somehow in all my searches I didn't find anyone trimming the rod. :dunno:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

how are the 02's reading?

It's throwing a P0171 code which is lean on bank 1(passenger side) which means they are reading a lean A/F ratio that the computer cant compensate enough for. The 4 cylinders on the passenger side are also have curiously higher compression.

The misfire codes it's throwing is P0302,P0303,P0304 and P0300. Which is 2,3,4 as well as random cylinder misfire. So it kind of makes me suspect just those three fuel injectors? Since cylinder 1 might be excluded. I need to check to see if the scanner I have will have a misfire count that way I can see which cylinders are misfiring and how much.

I replaced the fuel filter that looked like it was filled with mud. I had him buy 3 bottles of fuel injector cleaner and have him just drive the van. Also ran some seafoam through it.

Cleaned MAF
Visually inspected vacuum lines
Tune up
Decent compression
Fuel filter
2 new 02 sensors

There is a rattle coming from the cat so I know that does need to replaced but there is a reason why it went bad. It could be from the ancient spark plugs that were in there but that doesn't account for the lean code...

Again sunday I'll know if it's a vacuum leak or not but i'm really hoping it's not an intake gasket or something.

I have a WJ booster/MC in my comanche. Grab some washers and a 5/8(IIRC) drill bit or unibit. You'll figure out the rest. Also get a good flaring tool and the lines on the WJ booster.

Yeah, I knew the lines and such; already got a flaring tool (don't know if I would cal it "good" but I got one). Looks like I know my next project as soon as I get the Jeep back.

hmmm, to order a pizza or not. I actually think I may go old school and get an extra cheese pizza. Hell yeah.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

lots of progress was just made, gotta grab my camera and snap some pics

I just took some pics and went to load them onto the computer, only to realize i never had a memory card in the camera:dunno:

Is there a coil for each bank on that motor? I know on the earlier 4.6L had 2 coil packs.

Change the cat, then check everything again. It can change a lot of numbers. Then eat a couple bowls of mangos.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

its the stock main leaf that has 203k on it, the frt bolt is siezed inside the bushing, it aint worth saving, i cut off the bolt head and outer mount plate on the pass side, they aint comin off and i aint dealin with it im just gonna pull the reat of the leafs, there good for a solid 2-2.5" of lift, im gonna sel them cheap so they dont winf up in the 98
oh, thought they were lift springs or something that would sell ok, yeah chop the crap out of it

now just got tcase skid, rear shocks, frt bumper/steering box and radiator as my goals for tonite, anything else that is removed will be a bonus, tomorow i will start around noon to get the engine trans and tcase out
if you need help hauling stuff around, I should be up there sometime around that time. Not sure exactly when.

get a double flaring tool, single flares will work but not ideal and more likely to fail = bad.

Getting home before 10pm:
Finding my KMFDM CDs I bought on the doorstep: :thumbup:
Finding my 96 FSM ALSO on the doorstep: :thumbup::cheers::D

It is now time to listen to awesome music and page through this thing and see if I can find out how to make my fuel gauge work with a 97+ sender.

I am pretty sure what I have is a double flaring tool.

And now I want to listen to KMFDM... Awesome. I gotta find my zune and charge it. I think (hope) I left it in the car.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

omg, I could save $8,300 on a set of speakers!
http://soundapproach.com/acapellacampanilemkiiloudspeaker-p-1786.html

I wish I could afford speakers that cost that much... Not saying that I would buy them... but if I had that much money it would be great.

I would pick up a full surround sound set of magnepan planars though. As soon as I get my house I am going to start shopping for a used set of magnepans
