weekly to do list:
-call ruffstuff, make a big order
-go to metal place and get like 30' of 3x3 angle iron
-cut truss for coil buckets
-template/build LCA mounts
-bring black jeep into the shop and strip the whole front end apart and get it back to working without banging.
-find excuse to use tig welder
-throw a hammer
-not freeze while working in container

Hmmmm, if I had room to store that I would pick it up (as long as it goes for next to nothing). Get some wheels and some newer tires out of it. sell off the rear bumper. Use that for drivetrain/interior of the MJ. Sigh, I need a house. Though I have an email in on one property so hopefully I will get a response on that sooner than later :thumbup:

Assuming you are using that angle for frame stiffeners... you know you want to get double what you need and make 2 sets, right?

Unneccesary. Weld the inside seam, box them in with 3/16" and forget about it.

too late already most of the way done

dont bother with gussets to the center section and stuff. Just make/ buy some LCA mounts outta 1/4" and weld them on. nothin special and it gets the job done. Id never bother reworkin/fixing a stock mount. cut it all off and redo it once.



(ps-If youre interested, i have a set of tnt lca mounts that i wont be using.)

The gusset to the center section is only happening in one spot (already did it, so it's sorta too late... just needs to be welded down), the rest of the mounts are currently nearly done. I only reworked half of one (the one by the center section) because I had very little space to work and I'm not that great at it yet, the other 3 sides are 100% from scratch.

Jeeps and computers/tech are 2 hobbies that one person should not have at the same time, way too expensive. Now that I fixed the xbox and voided my warranty all hell is breaking loose. Just ordered a 250gb (7200RPM) HDD to upgrade that 20GB (5400RPM) thing that's on there. I don't even use the xbox for games that much anymore (kid brother uses it more than me). Now it's just become a "what else can I do" type of thing. I think the next step is installing the system in a PC case with a PC PSU. there goes another $60+

I keep my tech hobby on the low budget side, I get most of my stuff for free, only bought two computers in the last 5 years or so, all parts for both came to $1500. I think I've spent more on my jeep than that in the last 3 months.

Mostly I work on the electronics and stuff when I'm playing with tech though, I don't do much gaming so I don't need to constantly upgrade.

HOLY HELL. my friend with a H3 (its a promotional thing) has a busted rear driveshaft u joint, and he took it to the dealer to check it out with another few things. they wanted $500 damn bucks for replacing 2 joints on the driveshaft! looks like i'll be getting a little bit of work to make a few bucks this break!

:thumbup: I can't believe that price for 2 u-joints, luckily it makes $250 seem like a hell of a bargain!

I just pulled a pair of nice power, heated, leather seats. The bottom cushion has a little pouch and it has another pouch in the back. The brackets are just flat pieces of metal with 4 holes to bolt it to something. Got em fo' free:thumbup:

ZJ v8 tie rod- Less body roll
WJ control arms- heard it feels tight(but compared to worn out stock) also makes room for bigger tires
WJ booster swap(do it)

I would put in a 8.8 just because it comes with discs and they can be found with 3.54s pretty easily I believe. Perches are easy enough to have welded on.

the tie rod affects body roll? I thought it'd just affect steering, and the sway bar would affect body roll. X2 on everything else. 8.8s from Explorers I saw in 3.55, 3.73, and 4.10 at the JY.

So I have to say, newegg officially gets my "best shipping time" award. I placed an order at about 12:30 PM yesterday. My card was charged immediately and by the time I got home from work the status was set as "shipped" though there was no memo/tracking number attached to the order info yet (sometimes takes a while for the invoice/memo w/ tracking entry to be generated/updated). I just got an email at 9AM today with my invoice and tracking info.

So I checked the tracking info *hoping* that it had an ETA of tomorrow or thurs at the latest since I want my stuff by new years so I have something to do over the weekend. The package is already out for delivery! less than 24 hours after I placed my order and it is en route to my house. Now that is awesome.

I placed a second order for stuff I forgot (OS boot drive, thermal paste, and an adapter) for my last computer a day after placing the main order and it got there 2 days before the rest of the stuff because the second order came from NJ.

It did come from the NJ warehouse. Most of my recent stuff seems to be coming from there but usually it comes in 2-3 days, not 1.

Edit: Just checked the tracking. Package has been delivered. Almost exactly 23 hours from the time I clicked submit on my payment info until the package was at my door (according to the tracking info).

Edit 2: Now I just want to go home even more than I did before.

Sometimes i forget to open the windows and vent the place out. Ill take off my safety glasses/helmet, and be like "oh crap, thats right, gotta not suficate"

sa-weet! I was going to make my own but if you're on a roll with them and the price is right, I wouldn't mind paying up to have some work done for me :laugh: Particularly since you probably have more of the "right tool for the job" than I do.

i think the hardest part is stripping the framerails and welding to them. i dont forsee any difficulties making them stiffeners, just time comsuming for drilling all the holes. a couple of spots ill have to make cuts and bend the metal accordingly to the framerail angles. the toughest spot should be the transition from middle to rear. heres bills pieces, ill be doing something very similar.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I would be able to cut & bend ok I think, and would probably be able to bend pretty "easily" (heat plus a couple close trees and maybe the Jeep would get the job done).

I just figured you might have a drill press or something that would make the drilling a bit easier. I couldn't remember what you had in that "shop" of yours :dunno:. Then welding it to the unibody will be fun... Time to max out the millermatic 130..

Maybe I will save you the time and make my own. The more I think about it I could possibly just use the torch to blow out holes instead of drilling them, even though I know drilling would definitely be the preferred way. who knows, I will figure that out once I have the time to make a set.

drill em, if you torch the holes out the insides will be harder to weld and you'll have to clean off slag. Also, drill from the inside out and you won't have to deburr the edges to get them to sit flat on the uniframe rails.

Throw a countersink bit in either your hand drill or drill press, and hit each hole lightly and they'll deburr like a charm. Super super easy and it'll leave you nice clean holes

I just figured you might have a drill press or something that would make the drilling a bit easier. Time to max out the millermatic 130..

hopefully, id like to get my press working again and ill just that to bend. otherwise ill just put it over my knee and bend to what i need ill probably use the drill press in my dads shop, i might do some larger holes on the bridgeport. ill like to get my own drill press out in my little shop. the miller should be plenty fine for this job. mid power and taking your time gets the job.

not a bad idea at all. ill just run over the side of the stiffener with a flap wheel on the grinder and call it good.

its an old machinist's trick, so keep it in mind when you're using your Bridgeport too

I need to find somewhere to go for new years. My buddy is coming in from TX and mentioned going to Boston (which I was ready for) and would be fine with.

My brother came back from college and said hell no to Boston. He hates the city to begin with nevermind on newyears when its crowded

My buddy's sister came back from college and said OK to Boston and then mentioned providence or newport (after my bro said no to Boston) since she has an apt down there where we can crash. I said that's fine but everyone else just kinda ignores that option for some reason. Seems they don't want to say no, but they don't want to say yes either. idk why.

So why do I think that Thurs will roll around and I will end up sitting on my ass around this town doing nothing? Everyone will end up having their own idea or whatever, be indecisive, and nothing will happen.
