THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Gas and gear oil mixture is the worst. For the longest time I couldn't drive without the windows all the way down. In the winter I would crack all the windows at least.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Billy's jeep was pretty knarly when he first installed his indoor gas tank. My jeep smelled like that for a day or two. He made his permanent, that's balls.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah, gear oil is pretty gross... it smells like a minty corpse. I wonder how much of that has dripped out the rust holes in my floors and how much is still in the carpet, actually.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

when i did my gas tank tuck i ran out of metal to seal it back up

and i think i had a gas leak too.

it wasnt very healthy

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

familiar with my old rig(s)?

not to sound cocky or anything

but when i first built it at 4" and 37's a few years ago people were saying "OH MAN IT WONT FLEX FOR CRAP" "YOU WILL GET HUNG UP ON EVERYTHING" and the like. I stuck to my plan and it kicks ass. now you see low cog builds spouting up all over the place.

i linked that in here before, not sure to whom though
Yeah, I saw that. Kinda what I sas planning but mine would ideally be a bit narrower. It's what I have been aiming to do for years, now I finally have a job and can afford it. Only problem is that as I said earlier, I live at the parents house (ever since I lost my job in Jan and moved back in so I didn't have to pay rent and could keep paying other bills). Now that I am re-employed I am staying here to save up $$ ideally fora house.. it sucks; before I didn't have money to spend and couldn't buy Jeep parts, now I have money I am expected to save it rather than spending it on Jeep parts... My father said "the Jeep just seems like a never ending project" earlier this evening.. I started laughing and agreed. He wasn't expecting me to agree :D

XJ, i've driven around in the Honcho with tons of stuff in the back. It sags down a few inches but it takes it like a champ.
I love my springs, I threw a transmission, as well as a bunch of other crap in there a few years back and it sagged... maybe half an inch. Real stiff but it still flexes nicely :) My 280lb (at the time) brother stood on a stock XJ leaf that I took out while doing my lift and flattened it. He stood/jumped on my new leafs before I installed them and they barely moved. Granted that's old vs new and all.. but the lift didn't sag at all once it broke it, I was happily suprised

it smells like something rotting... with mint. I can't quite describe it.

When my gas tank was rusting out everyone would get in my Jeep and go "dude this thing smells like it's about to explode, is that normal?" - turns out the tank was rusted out on the top, and, well, the floors were rusted out too... so it sitting in the driveway overnight would fill it pretty well with vapors. So glad I fixed that up and threw a 97+ plastic tank in it.

There's alot in there, it all gets absorbed in the insulation. When I pulled mine out it still dripped after months of being "dry".

Was that billy who had the tank in back at the M&G (yeah, im bad with names :banghead:)? Since I have no floors in back as it is and everything is being torn out and replaced including dropping the tank (dont want to weld new floors with the tank in.. and it needs a new pump anyway) I figured now may be as good a time as any to lift the tank. was there a writeup anywhere on that? I would be interested in seeing what it took to do.

Once I get my ass in gear and replace my floors, if you have some patching to do feel free to swing by my place. I should have plenty of leftover sheet if you want to cover some holes up.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

That would be Billy's Jeep, yeah. It's a pretty simple thing to do... cut the hole in your floor, get a stock skid, set the tank in the skid, set the skid in the hole so the lip of the skid sets on the edge of the floor, and uses whatever means you feel necessary to strap it down. Or you can get all complicated-like and build a nice little frame with 1"x1" box tubing and blah blah. It's really up to you. Start by cutting the hole though, because cutting holes is always good

Well hopefully by Friday evening (or latest saturday morning) I will have absolutely no floor pans from my passenger seat back.. or close enough to that, I have to figure out exactly how far up teh real damage goes. I have a length of 4"x0.25" steel that I am tempted to create a bit of a setup with. Then I have plenty of sheet metal to make a full cover for it. I may try and rig something up. Mainly because I don't have a stock skid to work with.

Then again I may head to the JY on wed. Hopefully pick up a newer intake to get a few extra horses and maybe find a skid. Hopefully C4C has been nice to everettes JY. Their XJ selection was lacking for the past few years (last time I went was maybe early this past summer... so alot may have changed).

Thanks, I may take you up on that offer - not sure. I plan to get prefabbed panels for the front pans and my pipe dream is to put 1/8 diamond plate in the trunk just because (a) it's badass looking and (b) hey, I keep ending up carrying transmissions, axles, transfer cases etc in the back, I might as well use something that can stand up to it! Just gotta find a place where I can buy some diamondplate without breaking the bank.

Well I have 18 gauge, so its a bit thicker than stock.. but not diamond strong.

Part of me wishes I bought pre-fabbed fronts but I buying pre-fabbed front + rear would have cost around 500$ shipped I think. I am still tempted to man up and spend the money on pre-fabbed rear since I have to replace everything and all the small areas around the edges will be a PITA.. but I got enough sheet to do 2 XJ floors (almost) plus a [miller] welder for $610.

So I spent about 100$ more, but ended up with a nice welder and tons of extra steel sheet... that and tons of extra work  I'm not complaining... much

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Damnit NAXJA... I just lost 2 hours of my life.. again.

Time to pass out I suppose, got a lot of prep work to do before my 11AM meeting tomorrow

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Travis - Let me know what you find out on the line no matter what the color. I know they offer at least 10% off thru here. I might actually just try and grab a couple hundred feet and see if I can get a deal that way. I'll make the lines whatever length I want from that.

Carmelo - Did you ever see Dragon Tiger Gate?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Scott - check RockAuto, their front floor pans are under 50 a whack as I recall. Qtec's are... 100? 140? each, I forget. I don't think I need the pans for the area behind the front seats (I really hope not.)

sounds good. Orange would be cool but I won't be picky. I'd like a high visibility line just for a safety factor and to be easier to see at night etc. But otherwise I don't really care (Blue, orange, yellow, etc) I'll see if I can get anyone in DWE interested and we'll see what he says for pricing. Colin said he might be interested, and yourself and I, so if I find 2 more people we ought to be able to score a decent discount.
