THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It all depends what trail we're at. If you're rig isn't built enough for the trail there's always someone with an extra seat who you can ride shotty with. I'm not sure if the NAC has an "official" list or anything, but just the standard f/r recovery points, tools, spare parts, spare tire, first aid kit, tow strap(s), fire extinguisher, etc. is usually fine. When runs are planned, the organizer usually will let people know what the requirements are for a particular trail/area so no one gets in over their head.

Thanks, forgot the full size spare though that's a given.. except I don't have one. Time to find a cheap 33" spare (I think more like 32" true OD, esp after wear). I just can't rationalize buying a 'nice'/matching spare right now since I will be selling the wheels/tires next year. Speaking of it.. 33x12.50 Mickey Thompson MTZs (good tread) on 15x10 Classic II's may be for sale next year if anyone wants them :D Either that or I will keep them for street tires if I have my own place and/or I don't get takers. Extinguisher is easy, first aid is easy as I always have one, tools are easy, just gotta grab some spare parts... though I hope to have spare axleshafts sooner than later anyway when I get new axles and strip my current one(s) down.

Thanks again, shopping list has started. I have tow hooks available though I would prefer a bumper. just need something for the rear.

Speaking of built for the trail.. would building low COG be painful on many trails y'all tend to run? I was aiming for 36's (maybe 37's) on approx 4.5" lift (5" tops, w/o gear). I should be able to hit right about at that amount of lift with my 3.5" leafs, 1.5" shackles, and the shackle relocators... just don't want to build something that I would end up getting pissed at later and needing more (although I don't want all that much more anyway). Figured it's worth asking.

I always have fuses and a tire patch kit with me... these days two spare front driveshafts just because I've been too lazy to take them out of the back... oh and I have a spare d30 chillin' in the back too, I bet none of YOU have that

i have a 33" mud terrain. dry rot, kinda beat, holds air, good spare.

i have run most everywhere the northeast has to offer with 3-4" and 35's-37's.

the low cog thing isnt done because its cheap (well sometimes thats the case) but its also pretty beneficial out here

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

woke up

made more than $30

bought jeep parts to fix my jeep

fixed my jeep
Sounded like a good day back when I was unemployed this spring.

Now I have a schedule more along the lines of:

Woke up

Drove an hour to work

Worked a 9 hour day (worked through lunch as well)

Got home to find my shackle relocators had arrived

Laid under the Jeep staring at it looking forward to installing the relocators

watched the new episode of top gear

went for a drive to kill time

drinking a glass of scotch.

I think I did pretty well.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i actually lied about my day.

i "worked" at work

aka tinkering with my jeep and going on the internets

I've driven around for weeks with an engine, transmission, transfer case, misc engine parts, all my tools and I forget what else but I had more in there before I went to pick up that junk. I THINK that's the biggest load i've done. Anyway, i've driven on bumpstop(there's only one) for weeks/months at a time more than once. Not proud of it either, my jeep smells like supreme death.

I figured it would be beneficial, just wanted to check and make sure that NAC didn't like finding areas that screw with low COG rigs. You can ask anyone that knows me and they will say I have been planning a low build from day 1. Quite frankly if I could get good shackle angle with an aftermarket shackle and the relocators but keep it at 3.5-4" lift I would probably do that. I already plan on completely cutting the rear fenders and relocating the pinch weld so that shouldn't be an issue. God 2dr XJs make life easy on that front :D Maybe I will only pick up 1" shackles and cut the lift down to 4-4.5" lift w/ gear... still gotta plan...

Edit: Didn't realize the relocators were bolt on (for the most part). Makes my life easy. :)

haha yeah, I'm not on my bumpstops by any means, but it does smell pretty... various. I know for a fact I have at least 1qt of diff lube, 2-3qt tranny fluid, a cup or two of gasoline, some coolant, and maybe a cup of shock absorber emulsion in that carpet now. Was all that in the trunk of your XJ, or was this in the MJ/Honcho/whatever other glorious vehicles you own?

familiar with my old rig(s)?

not to sound cocky or anything

but when i first built it at 4" and 37's a few years ago people were saying "OH MAN IT WONT FLEX FOR CRAP" "YOU WILL GET HUNG UP ON EVERYTHING" and the like. I stuck to my plan and it kicks ass. now you see low cog builds spouting up all over the place.

i linked that in here before, not sure to whom though

XJ, i've driven around in the Honcho with tons of stuff in the back. It sags down a few inches but it takes it like a champ. Driving around with a lot of heavy stuff in the back of full size truck is not impressive though. I can say this too, my XJ smells worse then yours. I've taken transmissions and transfer cases apart in it. Driven around with gas cans with no caps. Food that I left in there 2 years ago. I always wanted a comanche, so I treated it like one.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Food? Yeah, you win the odor award. I try not to forget that in there.

As for the transfer cases and transmissions, well, I drove around for 2 weeks with a spare transmission in the back... with the cooler fittings wide open and fluid slowly draining out. I am careful with my gas cans though

best i can do is throwing a fully dressed 4.0 in the back of my jeep. picked it up at harrys u pull it and brought it to rc to install in my friends jeep that night.

when i spill water in my jeep i get pissed, nevermind gas or tranny fluid
