Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i rode the bike. a little chilly but not bad. nice ride with so much less traffic than normal

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

anyone want to do a bunch of jeep stuff today?
gotta pull a motor,put a beam in(xj)
track bar+more(mj)
heater switch(other xj)
replace misc bulbs(mj)
figure out why the rear pass taillight is not getting power(other mj)
check front brakes(other mj)

i think thats it.
damn chit adds up after a month of no days off.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

heck yeah i'd love to do that.

oh wait... i have my own crap to do and i was dumb enough to say i'd come in today.

hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work i go...

x2 :( Oh the good ole days of... waking up at 9AM and going to the labs until 9 or 10PM...

...wait, I have more free time now, why am I complaining? I still miss colllege, I would much rather be there doing 12-14 hour days than here doing 10 hour days.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I was brain storming on how to lower my VW on a budget (ie: free), and I came up with the idea of compressing a few of the coils and welding them together. That would lower it and not be cutting the springs so I don't know if it would destroy the ride quality that is already on par or worse then the Jeep. How many of you would kick me in the nuts for this?

The problem with doing something like that is the same issue you would have if you just heated the coils while they were on the vehicle.. It does not address your camber angle and can result in all sorts of facked up tires and geometries. Unless I am forgetting something here....

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Did you also tell the restaurant you were landscaping today :laugh2:
lol, like a mom said dad said thing?
naw wed is my dedicated day off from longhorn.
i am working both places tom and fri.
8am-3pm landscape+fix things
kiss wife,pet cats,take shower
5pm-10pm-ish dress up nice and play manager at longhorn.

im not a manager, but i fill in the shifts when needed.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

just lower it for real, those welds are gonna see some serious stresses, and usually they heat from the welding will screw something up, and if a weld breaks while driving i can see that not being good

your gonna kick yourself for doin it bootyfab style

ive never looked at dub coils, but i have a set of some kind of lowering coilovers in my shed. your more than welcome to use/experiment with those.
and i probably wont kick u in the nuts.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

first thing ill do i think is throw the beam in the blue xj,drag it with the green xj,then move the SB mj into the driveway, then check the driving lights on the LB mj,before i get really dirty.
holy chit. im about to move 4 jeeps around in like a 1/2 hours time.:loveu:
ive dreamed this before i think.

that's really really really not safe. welding springs is never good. springs are the same metallic content throughout. when you weld, you introduce a funky combination of heat treatment and dissimilar metals. and the weld is basically way stiffer than the surrounding spring and will crack. don't do it :twak:

my mkV gti has vogtlands with konig adjustable struts. rides nice.

I knew there was a reason. Mr. engineer knows it of course :laugh3:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

someone hadta lay the smack down. i actually did learn useful stuff in school.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

and besides... VW's are all about doing things right and making it clean. welding coils on a VW would be like treating it like a jeep.

however... cutting them does not cause them to crack. just sayin
