THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Now that I have the intake and header off, what would you say would be the best way to:
1) clean out the ports?
2) have it so that water/anything doesn't get in? (I won't be putting the new header/intake back on until I've cleaned the intake, and replace the motor mounts I just ordered.

1. I didn't bother. Used a scraper a little bit, but said f**k it.
2. Stuff some rags in the ports?

BAM!!! actually managed to get some work done on the WJ swap. have i mentioned how hard it is to work on a 30 with a 60 sitting out back? I gotta get this stuff going if I'm even gunna think about NACfest. I just have to order tie rod flip inserts the week and pick up tube from Bill.

I think the weekend before NACfest we should all have a little M&G with some gutter and bub's action. It should the shakedown run for a couple of wj swaps and colin's 44.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

knuckles look good, ross... and UJ has a run the weekend before that i know me and at least a few others are using as a shake down.

everything i've read says that the knuckles are cast steel, so the sand thing was probably not necessary, but i'm sure it didn't hurt one bit.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

sweet, as long as we go somewhere. the outer knuckles are cast steel. although post heat isnt really needed, the pre heat is what makes the difference. 2 bags of play sand cost $6 so it was used. once i got the knuckles cooking, i took the MIG and jsut dumped it in there. the spacers creates a nice little pocket when bolted up, so i jsut used some more wire and filled everything in as i went. they're good and solid now, not going anywhere.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

good to know. i wish i was good enough to have confidence in my own welding for this. i need more practice. you put some of your own wire in there then welded or just turned the feed rate up?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

If you want to know if its cast steel or iron glance it with a hammer, if it sparks its steel not iron.

Anthony - dont forget to factor in a couple dollars for full clips too.

Mark - use really good tape to cover the holes. To clean I usually do them with each valve closed, scrape and spray it will hold even the fluid. When done put the shop-vac right upto the port. Thats the best way I found without taking it apart. I also have alot of little scrapers and brushes.

I just had the welder cranked up and filled some of the voids in the cast. It wasnt hard to do, but i would say a 220 unit is a must. even with a 110 unit it would have to be maxed out and i feel it might not be enough to really lay it in there like i did. If you want, bring them by and I'll give ya a hand.

i've heard the grinder test too.. deep orange sparks means iron, regular sparks = steel.

those aren't happening till i get alloys. i was just thinking way ahead, but thanks

thanks for the offer, but i'm taking a day trip up to bill's place and he said he'd do it if i did the prep work. no big surprise, even i know welding is the best part. prep/post work sucks. going to take care of my axle-side TB bracket, the go-fer-it inserts, and my track bar all at once too.

the plan is for me to tack my axle side in place at my house, take off my current TB mount, put the RE 1665 on and measure length, then take all the new parts, pull the axle, and go up to his place to burn it all home.

yeah, thanks to some tard who goofed up the stage and rigging is delayed a week so instead of putting it all up this past week i wont be up there till next week=fail, getting paid damn good money to put it up in 2 days and take it down in 1=win, being good friends with one of the guys who does all the stage/rigging every year=priceless

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

sweetness. i gotta figure out how i'm gunna design my axle mount, probably some 2"x4" with some tabs welded on the outside to give me a 2" mounting width. ive decided to no longer truss it, no longer gunna replace the LCA mounts, probably wont even pull the axle anymore to do this, and i still may or may not make some gussets for the inner c's.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i think i might make gussets for the inner C's still. ross, do you know offhand if the inner C is cast steel? if so, sweet... and i plan on cutting the crap out of the stock LCA mounts and boxing the front. the back of the LCA mount is the only thing limitting my droop...i have some 1/4" plate laying around that would be inner C braces and the front of the LCA mounts.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

hey ross... so how do you feel about me coming down and burning a few other pieces home for me?

edit: hmmm... just realized logistics: bill has the tubing i need for my track bar.

Its up to you guys... but if you want get me a dimension within a few inches and I'll cut a length and give it to Ross when he picks up his/Colin's/Mark's tubing from my place later this week.
