THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Haha, no I was asking him as he lives a lot closer to me than you. I should have worded it "will you both please get me some stuff from the Junkyard, and then Colin, could you take it back with you?"

I had a big friggen list at home, but I'm at work right now.

The thing that I know I need, all for a '97+
I need a driver side mirror for a '97+
the plastic part for the t-handle shifter (the 2 door one is chewed up)
rear wiper motor.

If possible:
sun visors with mirrors in them, possible tan color
headlight bezels, color not an issue, green if possible.
that over head light console, doesn'nt have to be a full one, just one that has the 2 lights for the driver and passenger, then the one in the middle that comes on with the doors.
sound bar for rear
alloy rims

Basically, find a '97+ and rape it for me.

Damn that is quite the list!

You should head up next Sunday (28th) when the do the all-you-can-carry.

I'm just going up today because I want to see the inventory.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

did you just get up you lazy bastard?
i got up around 11. i'm going to go buy an angle finder today and measure my caster. any suggestions on what kind? or where to measure from?

mark... that's mostly to you.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I just got a Husky angle finder from Home Depot, it worked fine.

As far as where to measure from, since you have the knuckles on, and it would be a ton of work to take them off, I would suggest finding out what angle your pinion is set to by using the yoke. Once you have this number, find out what the stock numbers for pinion angle and caster are, then you can figure what your current caster is at. 5*-7* is the ideal numbers.

As you can tell by your experience last night, caster is much more imporant than pinion angle. I would start here, find out if the numbers are within spec. Then start searching for worn out bushings, joints, etc.

Also, I've never actually cured death wobble. I've only gotten it once a couple weeks ago. The Jeep hasn't been driving since then.

Its pretty ironic, I had death wobble in my bone stock 2 door, but never in my modified as hell, built by myself 4 door. I guess I'm better than Jeep's engineers.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

you had the honest real death wobble in the bone stocker? weird...

is the angle finder 2 pivoting arms with a protractor at the axis basically?

Ha, that is nothing compared to the list I have at home.

I am thinking about it, I might depending on things.

oh... dang. nice and easy. ok.

I didn't have an extreme case like you did last night, but I had the honest real thing.

On the highway, hit a pot hole, front end started vibrating like hell, made a wicked loud noise, scared the crap out of me. Immediately hit the brakes, and slowed down to about 40 ish, and it disappeared.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i went out and looked at my caster earlier. it looks like it's tipped back at least 5* but that's just a guess... i mean, my C's aren't pointed at the ground (in front :gee:) or anything. i would think that with at least some it would tend to help. argh this sucks. i can honestly say i never thought this would happen to me.

i'm willing to bet that the heim on my track bar that's a little loose is also causing it, somewhat.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

O ya, I never got it in the green one because I didnt go fast enough to get death wobble the first time I drove it after the axle swap. It was squirrelly, and wandered down the road wicked bad, and I have no doubt had I not stayed below 20mph, it would have happened.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

How is the bracket on the frame side?

Sorry man, wish I could help more, have to go back to work now.

yeah, it got a lot better after travis and i did the rough alignment, as in, i felt like i could go faster. i might do it again later today and have my girlfriend help. and i'll probably adjust the caster. the thing about it that i noticed is that rather than dying down or at least staying the same, it would cause itself to grow and the only thing i can think of that can do that is bad caster. everything else will get damped out (eventually) after the initial impulse of the bump.

so, i'm convinced that at the moment it's a combination of my caster and my bad heim.

should i call RE for a heim or summit machine? i'm thinking summit machine.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

time for food. :)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

just called mike. he's going to quote me on overnight shipping on a 3/4" shank and 5/8" bore heim, safety washer, and lock nut. he said i'll have it for 10am monday.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

don't forget the duct tape, damn it.

Damn that sucks man.

How far up did you dial your pinion angle to? I know I don't have perfect caster (mine wanders a tad) but I have yet to get death wobble from it.

I'd put money on the loose joint. When I originally finished my whole setup, the JKS track bar bolt was 7/16" and the RE bracket had a 1/2" hole. With the 1/16" of play, I had a nice dead spot. While I never got death wobble from it, my jeep was all over the place.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

haha, we'll see. jenn has to go to dover to renew her license today so, conveniently sears is right next door in the fox run mall. digital angle finder here i come.
