THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

my jeep got fuuucked today. reverse is officially dead and i probably need a new tranny, and i may have wrecked the spider gears in the d30. i might need to buy a cheap beater DD to use for a little while until i can get hte jeep all fixed up and sorted out. anyone have any leads for a good shape AX-15 and some sort of cheap DD? I'm going to change the axle and tranny fluids this week to see how they look and most likely cry at the mount of metal shavings in the tranny :(

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

you can take my tranny for cheap... the synchros are fine. i think. the gears kinda make noise though...

bill, it's up to adam to upload the video.

I'll wait for it.

On a previous topic, what do you think about the ~10%? Think it is worth it? Or should I leave well enough alone? Assuming you saw the post and know what I'm talking about.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

well, I know what you're talking about... meaning I read the post, not really meaning I know what you're talking about as far as you engineering kiddos are concerned :-p But, how many people do you know who run the 4 1/2" bolt setup who have had problems? If there aren't many, I wouldn't worry about it...if there are many, then I'd say do as much as ya can to add the strength.

I have not seen any first hand, nor have I heard of anyone around us having any issues. However I have seen a few on the interweb with issues. Thinking about it for the last few hours I think I'll have issues with the stock Ford knuckle itself before I end up tearing the high steer arm off.
It's settled then. I'll stick with what I've got.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yeah, i seem to remember reading somewhere that the Ford's d60 knuckles weren't as beefy as the chevy/gm counterpart, so having issues with the knuckle first would make sense to me as well...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

ask adam, i know he has zj seats.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

so if it turns out my spiders in my current D30 are screwed i'll just use it as an excuse to finish up the 30 in my basement with 4.10s since its got a new carrier and spiders and whatnot. i'll pull the cover this week and will find out how destroyed they are.

anthony i'll either take your or alan's tranny most likely. i'm going to start craigslisting it up for some cheapo beater vehicle to get me around until i can get around to getting this all fixed. it's going to inevitably be a lot of runs to parts stores and home depot so i need wheels and can't really bike around with heavy jeep parts

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

the spiders in your 30 are nearly definitely screwed, kyle. you're lucky they didn't blow up on the highway on the way home.

the one alan has is probably in better condition. i'd recommend pulling tranny, looking at what you have inside, then deciding how to go about fixing it (new synchros, new tranny, etc) it's just hard to diagnose a problem you can't fully see.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i need new seats for my xj, are zj seats a direct bolt in>?
I've got all the seats from my '97 XJ in excellent shape. Power driver's, grey cloth.
Let me know if ya want 'em.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

bill, a welding question. i was working on my new bumper on saturday, welding on the d-ring tabs. some of my welds had awesome penetration and i was pretty proud of how they looked and felt while welding. most of the others were ok, but not great. i found that when i kept the gun closer to the steel it welded better (closer = 1/4 away or so vs 1/2-5/8) but then i was having a hard time seeing what i was welding as i was doing it. also, how much of an angle should the gun be at with respect to the direction i'm going?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Not sure there is a right answer for ya, maybe someone else can chime in if I'm misunderstanding what you asked.
Usually between 10 and 30 degrees from vertical when welding a pair of butted plates. Or 30-60 degrees from horizontal when welding in a fillet for two plates 90degrees to each other. Really it mostly comes down to the thicknesses because you'll want to spend more time on the thicker material. Did I really even answer what you asked?

Off to work/class...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yeah, i think you answered... cept for how far away, but that's ok.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

well, looks like i'll be trying to find a cheap DD and the jeep will be on jackstands for a while. hopefully it'll be back up and running by the summertime at this point
