THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread aka North America Home Owners Association Thread

Best deal I have found was my local CAP can get the Exide Edge AGM for $339 + tax for the pair. I want to keep something that has the 800+ CCA since I don't always plug my truck in it starts hard on cold mornings with the wind.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread aka North America Home Owners Association Thread

Wally worlds, don't think they have side post
Bummer. If they have the top post only I can't use them cause the adapters won't clear the hood. I tried. ;)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread aka North America Home Owners Association Thread

Truck needs new batteries soon so daydreaming and whatnot during lunch and looking at new trucks. Very quickly came back to my senses and I'll hold on to this LBZ a little longer.

Reasons:
1) Cost. Equipping one like mine is insane money. Ram $58K, Ford $60K, GMC $61K
2) Every single one seems to have loads and loads and loads of threads on DEF and/or regen issues. The only one that didn't was the new 2015 Power Stroke but the 1st gen 2014s still had them and too soon to tell if the 2nd gens fix the issues.

Overall if I HAD to get one tomorrow it probably would be the Ford I'd first want to test drive followed by the GMC and leading the end the Dodge. Of course a test drive might change all that but that is moot based on #1 and #2 above.

On a side note, I am pleasantly surprised at the value my LBZ holds.

Personally, I wouldn't even bother going diesel on a new truck unless I just really wanted it. Which I definitely would, but that's besides the point

The cost vs. long term savings is hard to swallow especially when something like the new 6.4 hemi is 425 lb ft anyway. Not sure on how the new 8 speed trans are though, and that's the main reason I'd want a diesel is I'd want a stick. They do have coil sprung rears on the 2500s I think now? Don't know. Haven't followed up on them. I don't know much about the new fords or GMs though.

Are you pricing out brand new trucks with all the options? Ask Nick what he got his for. I'm pretty sure it was like $20k less than what you're showing as it was a leftover 2013 model. His still has quite a few options even being "bare bones". Do Ford and GM offer an exhaust brake? Thing works great in my father's truck. Nick has one in his too. I think std equip.

Nick has had to take his back for ball joints and front shocks as well as the steering intermediate shaft. All covered under warranty.

I think my Diehard Platinums were more than that, but they've been going for 4-5 years now without a hiccup on cold mornings. No slow starts or anything even without being plugged in.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread aka North America Home Owners Association Thread

Ford and GM both have the exhaust brake. Ford you can manually control now as of 2015.

425 lb ft is a far cry from the 765 of GM or the 880 of Ford. I have 650 now (at least when it was new) and surely don't want any less. Plus the slowness of gas pumps annoys me.
The long term costs are recouped mostly anyway on trade in. My truck if it was a gas job would be worth $6125 less now according to KBB.

Yeah, the Platinums are like $50 more per battery. Exide makes a good battery too, in the USA, and they are the official NASCAR sponsor so #racetruck.

Nice, I wasn't sure if Ford/GM had them yet as I haven't researched it.

Yeah I know gas jobs make about half the torque, but they're also a hell of a lot cheaper overall (initial purchase and repairs). While I'd love the power of my father's truck (I think it's similar to yours 350/650), I get along just fine with my measly 425 in my truck

As far as pumps, I can't go full bore on a diesel pump anyway thanks to the stupid check valve

If it's NASCAR approved then it has my vote

I editted this above but you quoted before:

Fix that already. I love in the winter when it is cold out.

Yup, they got to order them in since then only have 1 on the shelf maybe I'll get them soon.

last night on the youtubes i saw a video of each 2015 truck hauling a load going down a 6% grade. the test was 50-40 mph without touching the hydraulic brakes.

Chevy slowed down within about 1250 feet. Dodge was about double that, and the Ford never slowed down to 40 mph.

Yeah I tend to run my vehicles into the ground so I usually don't look at trade-in value. Good point though.

I think the fix is buying a new tank. Which I'm definitely not doing

That's pretty awesome. I wonder what the load was.

I don't have the exhaust brake but my Allison/Turbo combo is nice on hills. I'm sure some of the Chevy had to do with the trans/engine as well.

Interesting on the Ford as they are toting it pretty hard for the 2nd Gen 6.7L (as well as the new turbo to do something similar to my Chevy)

I bought mine on black Friday last year for 13k under sticker, because no one wants a stick anymore. Had been on the lot for 6 months. G56 has 350/660, base auto has 370/800, and the HP version has 385/850. I have 34k on mine and been back to the dealer twice, one for gelled fuel because, even tho they install a rear fuel heater, they don't turn it on in software (and the filters are very low micron), and this past summer at 25k it needed all 4 balljoints, left front shock, and the intermediate shaft. Was surprised at all of that but not much I can do, I attribue it to the really shitty rt 24, 128, and 495 roads I drive 120 miles a day on. Mine is a SLT crew cab so nothing too fancy but much better ride and a lot quieter than my previous 99 cummins.

Personally I've never been a Duramax or powerstroke fan, I had good luck with my 99 for 110k miles and so far, really havent had anything I'd consider horrible on this one. The exhaust brake works awesome to speed up warm up, I can have heat within 5 minutes when its 20 out.

There were early DEF system issues but 95% of it was software bugs, which is expected with an all new ECM. Thats almost all been worked out, and I never had issues. My DEF usage is rather low because I do mostly highway and it keeps the filter clean.

I will say this, the capless fuel filler is the dumbest thing ever designed. It has two flaps and whatever fuel gets trapped between leaks all over the ground (which happens almost every fill up). Id like to swap to the 2010-2012 filler setup but haven't had time.

That video lost all credibility being created by one of the manufactures. Haha.

How annoying is the regen really?
What happens to your fuel mileage when it is on?

I'm not sold on one brand or the other. When I got my Duramax there wasn't any Dodges around that were not rust buckets or bro'd out and there was no way I was getting a 6.0L Ford after those horror stories. I've been very happy with mine truck so far.

Capless so people without a brain can't forget to screw it back on or not tighten it enough and therefore lead to CEL for evap leaks.

I dont even notice it honestly, my mileage doing 70 is around 19.5 highway, up near 75-80 it drops. Regen itself doesnt last long, but happens more often if you drive more around town or idle a lot, for me thats a non issue

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread aka North America Home Owners Association Thread

**** new trucks, hell anything then Colin's is junk to me. About the only newer truck I would ever be interested in would be the unicorn LBZ/ZF6 Chevy, perferably a reg cab or like Bill's. Older diesels are just so much simpler and less things to fail. Parts are dirt cheap and none of those dang electronics to replace.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread aka North America Home Owners Association Thread

Ross buy mine for $50k and I will included a ZF6 for you.
Heck cause you are a friend I will even put new batteries in.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread aka North America Home Owners Association Thread

I hate the color of your truck. I mean its nicely matched to the truck and all, but it just ain't my thing. Murdered out reg cab Duramax, maybe white and black, for me.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread aka North America Home Owners Association Thread

Hell, I'd even drive with the GM tow mirrors pushed in, those are nice mirrors.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread aka North America Home Owners Association Thread

Hey guys what's up I have a ford ranger I'm pretty sure it has some type of engine and I think it has mirrors somewhere on it too. You guys want to hang out?
