THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm planning on getting most of my swap parts from Stefan when he parts his out. What will I need besides the trans, a flywheel/clutch, pedal box, PCM, and the tcase shift linkage brackets?

Please post your answer in how-to video form.

Hey Chris, was just looking at your build on PBB.

What did you mount your notcher and bench grinder too?

Homemade pedestals?

Care to share some details?

Bench grinder came that way, it may or may not be the same stand as this:

http://www.harborfreight.com/universal-bench-grinder-stand-3184.html#.Ux3spvvEcmQ

but it looks similar. I will probably do away with it and wall-mount the grinder at some point, seems like it's always getting in the way of other stuff.

For the notcher I got this one, which has a much heavier base:

http://www.harborfreight.com/bench-grinder-stand-42986.html#.Ux3s-vvEcmQ

Works fine but don't count on the stand itself to hold the notcher in place while you're trying to use it. I either stand on one of the 3 legs or kinda hug the drill in my right hand while holding the stand with my left. Do it once or twice and you won't even think about it.

I also modded the stand a little bit:
- mounted a conduit box with 2 outlets on it and a long cord (drill and grinder stay plugged in all the time)
- made a hanger for a shitty $9 HF angle grinder with a cutoff wheel. It's always hanging there for when you need to chop off a notch mid-cut when the hole saw isn't deep enough.
- got the Swag super shaft and drilled the 'quench' tray to keep a bunch of hole saws pre-mounted on arbors handy
- also made storage for a t-handle allen key that fits the Swag shaft, as well as a crappy 3/4" wrench for adjusting the Notchmaster.
- I use the quench tray to throw all the cut ends in and also as an 'ashtray' to dump all the shavings out of the tube

Idea behind all that is I don't wanna have to grab stuff out of the toolbox or repurpose other stuff in the garage everytime I need to notch a piece of tube. Everything is right on the stand and I never have to go looking for any tools.

Definitely one of my most-used things in the shop.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Thanks for the info. That's the reason I asked, whenever I need to notch tubing I always have to repurpose shit.

I was actually curious about that exact stand. Good to know. I think it's still worth grabbing that pedestal stand for the tubing notcher. Also a good idea about picking up a shitty HF grinder for dedicated use.

I was also debating mounting the bench grinder to the wall. I don't use it often enough to mount it to my workbench and definitely don't want it taking up valuable real estate.

sounds like you need a giant lathe. great for piling crap up on. I just so happen to have one.

shit to make an NSS bypass (what this implies depends entirely on how much you care about wiring)
shit to wire up your reverse light switch
(if you don't care about selling your old NSS, just cut the connector off it and wire the reverse light switch to the proper pins and then wire the P/N pins together. Done.)
driveshafts
adapter plate that goes from the trans to the trans mount bushing
crossmember, if you care about the difference in height between the auto and manual crossmembers
master/slave cylinder pair
pilot bearing, part number FC69907 comes with the adapter bushing thing that makes it fit an engine that was in front of an auto
flywheel bolts, automatic flexplate bolts aren't long enough, 1/2-20 thread, reduced height head, .875 to 1" long (I'll tell you if 1" is too long when I do mine)
pressure plate bolts
throwout bearing/flywheel/pressure plate/clutch disc of course
steering column, for a 100% perfect OE swap. Supposedly they are different. I'm gonna find a way to do without, I think it just involves disabling the park interlock.
ECU
shift linkage brackets like you said
pedal box like you said
the blockoff plate for the trans tunnel opening (it's different from an auto one)
both shift boots (the one that clips to the console and the one that screws to the floor)
bellhousing cover plate thing
if you suspect the alignment dowels for the two lower bellhousing bolts may seize into the AW4, buy two new ones so you don't have to worry about it, getting them out without mangling them can be difficult

That is about all I can think of.

sorry, nope.

Kinda curious how the hell you found that on youtube, by the way :laugh2:

Unless it involves hating on Bill!
:kissyou:
They just need to jello wrestle in bikinis and get this shit over with.
Nah, I know how Pat gets with the dudes and I don't swing that way.
If patch wins, we drink until our stomachs have to be pumped. If Bill wins we knit quietly by ourselves. LET'S GET IT ON
I love you too Billy.

Funny thing is y'all know I have a fun time when I don't have to play president.

I can't imagine how happy Kate will be if she comes home to a lathe on the porch.

Probably happier than finding me in a rocking chair.

i scrapped 100% of that out of my gold xj :-(

Colin, a bench grinder bolted straight to the wall will vibrate the whole house unless the wheels are perfectly dressed, same goes for a grinder bolted to a workbench bolted to a wall. In a detached garage, infrequent use, or space constrained area, it's less of an issue.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My father had a bench grinder.

I think in all my time living there, I can count on my hands the number of times I used it.

I mainly just use the wirewheel side to clean up bolts/small piece pieces of metal.

I don't think it will be a problem.
