I've met him a couple times, I used to see his buggy parked outside his house before I met him. I was like "WTF I didn't know anyone around here had shit like that" he always had like 3 jeeps outside too. That was back when it was still just scrap parts and tube, nothing fancy. Eventually I was at my girlfriend's friend's house, literally across the street and he was driving up a rock in his driveway. I went onto neow that night and was like "someone has to know this dude" turns out it was Lucas Murphy.

So I'm gonna buy Kate a laptop for Valentine's Day. Her old one is pretty much dead and she needs it for school.
Basically, all she does is surf the internet, use Microsoft Office, and watch movies with it. Doesn't need anything ridiculous or anything like that. Her only requirements are it can't have Windows 8, it has to have a DVD drive, and that's about it.
I was thinking of something like this:

I think you're stuck with windows 8. The laptop I have is basically the same thing you posted, just more memory, hd space and processor. No option to get it with 7 on it that I know of. Microsoft pretty much forces manufacturers hands from what I know. Just try and make sure it's easily compatible with 7. I think mine is but really haven't had the patience to give it a try. Still hate it though.

That's not surprising, newegg is probably the way to go then. I can almost guarantee best buy has only windows 8. I needed a laptop quick since mine broke and I like at least seeing it first. If you can get a similar laptop with 7 on it I would be all over it. From what I hear though 7 is going away on new products soon entirely though, I think some can still have it, or request to have it but it'll be gone soon on new computers. Unless you install it yourself.

Yeah I hear ya, but shes right in the middle of a semester and doesn't have the extra time to spend relearning a new operating system. She's not that picky on the laptop itself as far as ergonomics, and like I said she doesn't really push the limits of anything on it.

I met Lucas when he ran an early version of his old buggy thru the mud pit in Rehobeth.
Colin I've had a widescreen Acer laptop for about 8yrs and it's worked great for me. The only thing I did was eventually get a bigger hard drive from newegg for it. I threw it in my backpack for 4yrs using it for school and never had a problem. I'd get another one. It is way better then the Dell, Compaq and Toshiba ones I had.
Although now I'm so used to using my iPod, iPad and iPhone that I would probably get an Apple laptop next.

stupid boss made an appointment for shocks on a bmw which calls for 8 hours of labor. I get to leave when that is done. Im hoping it shows up thursday night so I can get a head start, or doesn't show up at all so I can leave work early.

Colin, I bought my laptop from http://www.microcenter.com/ and had wifey pick it up in their store in Boston. Was the best deal I could find, and all the Harvard/MIT nerds buy there so it was good enough for me.
Lucas had come to the store a few times and I had no idea who he was the first 2. Nice guy, very down to earth.
