THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Looks like they are actually using the chip properly, to drive the gate of that irfiz34n n channel mosfet. You probably popped that by miswiring it.

Try replacing the mosfet first. If you want to diagnose it, just use an oscilloscope to follow the signal from the input of the ixdi404pi all the way to the injector drive output pin on the MS harness connector. Id bet on it being the mosfet but you never know.

I don't see a snubber diode on the mosfet itself, just on the gate drive to it, so I would strongly suggest putting one across each injector. I am not sure a 1n581x series can handle the current now that I think about it, maybe a 1N5801 rectifier. 4+ amp capable schottky rectifiers are expensive and sorta hard to find. 1n5801 series rectifiers on the other hand are like 5 bucks for 4 at radio shack.

Edit: oh I see, the circuit to the left of the mosfet is the snubber and active clamp. Nifty.

Wtf! Those are MOSFET/IGBT gate drivers, they are designed to drive capacitive loads not inductive ones. I bet back EMI is kicking the shit out of them. Try using a back-EMI snubber diode, connect the cathode to the more positive injector terminal and the anode to the more negative one. I would use a schottky type if possible, I have a handful of 1N5817s around here if you want some for testing.

Is it being used as a low side switch? You may need to substitute something like a VNQ5050K-E that is, you know, actually designed for the intended application. Unless the chip you listed is being used to drive the injector driver MOSFET's gate, which is what they are intended for, then I would suggest upgrading the MOSFET and maybe trying a snubber diode as well.

What . . . the . . . ****?

yup. Lots of words for nothing :dunce:

That IRFIZ34N is available on digikey for $1.68ea, if you are going to make a habit of popping them by miswiring things I suggest buying a rail of 25 for $23 after discount :spin1:

Everyone read this thread and then tell me you dont want to go snow wheeling.

THAT INCLUDES YOU MARK I KNOW YOU LURK HERE

Eh, not that much, I only come on here every once and a while.

Ya, that was a great day. Fun trip both to and from the trail, as well as on the trail. The Pike was a deathtrap that day, almost got mauled by a bus. All the drifting we did on the way to the trail was pretty sweet. Too bad things aint like they used to be.

That was the northern NAC's "Big Bang."

Ya snow wheeling is great. Unfortunate I don't have a Jeep anymore so I can't do any.

Mmmm talk nerdy to me Kenneth. You're putting me at 45 degrees.

Did you guys know you can run 6.17 gears in a high pinion dana 30? And it will hold up to 53" boggers?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

maybe with a samurai on top of it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

just found out that the bar down by my apartment on mondays has $7 all you can eat wings. its not a shitty dive bar so i bet they will be on par or better than the 99's wings

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Cooked the DB37 on the harness side as well as the board side. That MOSFET driver seems cooked, and didn't have a chance to check out the transistors but I'll do that Friday or something.

Good job retard.

@9 on HGTV Keene will be fetured on Battle of the Pumpkinfest, id watch it but Dumb and Dumber>Battle of the stupidfest

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Wow, that blows.

If you can get me PCB artwork (or a good high res section of that section of the board before it burnt) and the parts I guarantee I can fix that for you.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I could probably just solder a wire to the DB37 pin instead of using the conductor on the board where it burnt (looks like it was just the one conductor for the injectors) and clean it up. Just replace the driver and possibly transistors and it should be good?

Worst case is just send it back as warranty at this point, if they'll even take it.
