THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

my ruffstuff order shipped

on the other hand, my alljeep order from sept 15 is still pending. kinda disappointed, I have emailed them 3 times and called twice with no results. I had much better luck with them this spring and in the past. At least they haven't charged my card yet.

LMK if there's anything I can get to you faster. can price match/beat depending.

ps - heard from Spicer rep they're no longer doing ball joints. I was doubtful, but he's works for them, and I don't.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

im curently waiting on my battery box i ordered 2 weeks ago from them, gonna give em a call tomorow, and what did ya order from alljeep?
spare wj balljoints, spare xj balljoints, and a pile-o-ujoints.

I will be calling you at some point, your prices are about the same as theirs, shipping is faster, and you actually answer the phone and send things

Last time I got Spicer balljoints they had TRW part numbers stamped on em anyways. And the Spicers I got last time didn't include the nuts or cotter pins, while the TRWs I got from you did. I was kinda confused when I opened the box and it was just the damn balljoints.

I tore those balljoints in half but that's because my axleshaft exploded and ran into them, not because the balljoints were bad. Inspected the ball and socket while it was apart and everything was in great shape, aside from having been popped out :anon:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

At this time next week I will just be getting home from the airport and going to bed. TGIF.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Friday! License monday! Things are looking up finally!

Less than a month for me!

My buddy's just went through on Monday. 7 months + 1 year of having an interlock device on his car after that. Actually, it's 1 year of not being able to operate any vehicle that *doesn't* have an interlock device (it's basically as good as another DUI if you get caught doing that). Plus they make you pay for the device & installation costs ($2200+) in addition to the NJ surcharge of $1000/yr for 3 years, plus all the other fines, plus classes n junk.

Getting stopped by state troopers and blowing a 0.25 on the side of the road doesn't leave ya much room for negotiation.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

All this blabber about 3 vs. 6-gear planetaries in the NP231, wide chain upgrades, etc.

Has anyone actually had a failure from only having 3 planetary gears? Or broken the stock NP231 chain? I know I've had stretched chains, but that's been on cases with 100k+ miles on them.

Just wondering.

I haven't heard of any.

I'd be willing to bet it's mostly because guys with larger engines go straight for the 6 gear planetaries and don't bother trying the 3 gear.

I've never even had a stretched chain (well, that I knew of). I did test drive one that had a gross chain at 150k miles. The thing would buck and lurch like crazy in 4LO.

On a different note, would you trust a 23-spline output shaft on an NV4500? I could buy this gas one for $600 and not have to swap out the mainshaft, and just use a gas NP241 and not swap inputs.

I would love to see an output shaft explode. Soooo, yea it'll work.

I don't even know what that failure would look like. Considering what it does and where it is in the driveline, that planetary carrier setup is pretty beefy already.

The BA10/5+NP231 that I swapped in my XJ when I first converted it to 4x4 had a bum chain. First trip out to Rausch (just after it opened in 2003 :p ) the noise it made was described as "chopping rocks with a chainsaw".

You know my list of casualties I've caused with a 23-spline output on the NV4500. And a 23-spline output *after* the 231 doubler as well.

I still say you're overthinking the amount of torque you'll actually be able to put to the ground.

I wonder if the case would just crack at that point instead of the planetary gearset?

Yeah I know, but the engine will still have more power than your stroker.

I probably am, but I just REALLY don't want the drivetrain to be my weak link. I'd rather blow up an axleshaft than an output shaft.

Go buy a diesel NV4500 and NV241.

Everyone wants an arm and a leg for a diesel NV4500/NV241.

I'm finding I'm better off getting the gas versions and upgrading the inputs/outputs.

I'll still come out ahead.

The ones I found deals on either sold immediately or the guys reposting their ads wanting more. There was one guy in VT that I offered $1k for a diesel NV4500/NP241 but he wouldn't even consider it.

Who knows. I've got a pile of cracked cases. Just seems like one of those 'upgrades' that everyone puts a shit-ton of time and effort into that could be better spent elsewhere.

"I've got a D30 with stock shafts and u-joints, but at least I have a 6-pinion planetary and wide chain!" :wierd:

Sooo....with less power, I've already broken the same axle stuff that you run, which prevented me from putting more torque through the drivetrain. I've never actually broken anything at WOT.

The 23-spline spud shaft after my doubler has nary a bit of twist in it.

edit: XXXX the 'wierd' smiley for being spelled wrong.

Well those people I think are just stupid, but bolting up an NP231 with the 6 gear shit already in it is one thing, vs taking it apart and trying to upgrade it.

True. I would just hate to attempt to run it and blow everything up. Dodge even upgraded all gas NV4500s to 29-spline outputs starting in late 2000. Though that could have just been more of a cost saving measure than a need.

EDIT: Although...as much as it would suck...if it blows up, then I just upgrade the output/inputs anyway. Hmm...
