THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

actually... what kind of furnace are you planning on going with? I'm split between natgas forced hot water and wood pellet forced hot water.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Probably oil & propane for heat and oil burner for the forced hot water.
I think the big thing isn't the type of fuel used so much as the supporting equipment around it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah, I know I wanted one this morning when I started my truck too.
Still a month away, I thought we'd have more orders by now.
I am giving people over a month to order so that nobody can say they missed out.
I just like giving you a hard time :D

No. Natural gas, imo, sucks. If your town allows oil, get it. NG is no cleaner, truthfully isn't safer, and it can not provide the same amount BTU 's as oil either.

Plus, if you don't like your oil company you find a new one. Don't like your gas company, oh well.

Both of you should look into ductless mini splits. You two could easily instal them yourself, and probably multiple in a day http://www.mini-split.com/

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I don't want to waste as much space in my basement as those frickin tanks take up, and I already have natgas plumbing in the house.

I am doing radiant floor heating, which means either electric ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$ around here, I pay around 13.5c/kwh) or forced hot water. Don't really need AC and too much of a cheapskate to pay the bill for it, except maybe in one or two rooms.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I love your idea of radiant, hate the NG though. But I guess it would come down to install pricing, seeing as in Mass you can't legally instal either system, nor buy the pieces. I honestly believe oil would be the best bet. Not to mention people usually grossly oversize their tank(my dad) and run WAYYY more than they have to. You're supposed to have a tank that will hold 1/3 of your yearly consumption. My guess it you'd need one 250gal MAYBE a 275 if you liked it really warm. But check out the lower volume wall mount tankless water heaters. Even I'll say those things kick dick with gas Aslong as you're not trying to pull more GPH through it than it can push, you'll never run out of hot water. Even if you do pull more water, it will only be gradually cooler.

As you can tell, I'm what my refrigeration teacher calls "A XXXXing heating guy"

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I went to the LAARS manufacturing plant on a tour and their stuff is pretty legit.

And Buderus makes some balling boilers too. Both local, LAARS in Rochester, NH and Buderus in Londonderry. But Buderus is a European based company so they are FAR ahead and beyond any American based companies in terms on efficiency. But be aware when you sea the AFUE ratings, manufactures are allowed to exaggerate they're ratings by up to 5%.

I already have a water heater, it came with the house and amazingly worked still  it has 4 years left on the warranty, if it breaks after that point I'll definitely pick up a good efficient one, till then it's this one or free replacements.

I can buy all the stuff I want here actually - it's installing it that I'm technically not supposed to do. Plenty of people do anyways though, and I'm working on finding a plumber who is willing to either watch me do the work or just post-inspect for a fee.

big jeep is back to 80% floors
nice! Can't wait to see that beast in the woods.

how the hell is that legal?

I'll look into those brands, thanks. The wood pellet furnaces I'm looking at are sold by Tarm Biomass from Lyme NH, but I'm not sure who makes them yet.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Tomorrow I get to tow with my truck, wheel my jeep, use a chainsaw, and get smashed at the end of the day, then pass out in my tent. I CAN'T XXXXING WAIT! :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Keith you're going to like this... got the info packet from Tarm Biomass in the mail today.

They have boilers/furnaces that will run on wood, I assume wood pellets, gas, OR oil. A bit pricey though

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

end is near for swanzey???

Many of the area residents of Troy from various roads that access this property have complained about large groups of "trucks" to the town Selectmen. (if you know the towns, you know the property) The town Selectmen are now contemplating closing many of the Class 6 roads in the area. In addition this is not an issue isolated to Troy. Troy, Swanzey, and Richmond town officials have all begun discussing the "infestation" of trucks in their area. There have also been many complaints from other trail users and locals that recreate in the area about "others" damaging "their" roads.

All is not quite lost yet!

A group of concerned local wheelers will be setting up a meeting between the NEA and the town selectmen. We will come to some type of resolution to attempt to continue our access.

AT THIS TIME:

I would ask the clubs and individuals using the property cancel their runs until further notice....If you insist on using the property DO NOT access the property through Troy! Please only access the property from Swanzey

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

God I love the motorcycle. Bit brisk this morning but not nearly as bad as I expected once I got on the highway, right now it's so perfect out.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

What's the general rule of thumb for proper thread engagement? Is it something like 1.5x the diameter of the bolt?

FWIW: This is regarding a 7/8" threaded end so I was thinking 1.5" should be sufficient thread engagement? Or should I aim for a little more than that or is a little less OK too?

That said the stock trackbar/bracket came out clean :D Wasn't expecting that. Guess taking my time with heat/PB blaster paid off. Right now it looks like my trackbar maxes out at about 30" long while the drag link will be around 32" long. Kinda disappointed that I won't be able to match them perfectly but whatever, I'll live with it for a while. My steering wasn't perfect before. Maybe I'll call TNT on Monday and ask if I can exchange the 0-6" lift trackbar for the 6"+ lift trackbar which should give me the extra length I need to match the lengths perfectly.

that blows - too many idiots going in there at any time of day or night?

Richmond makes me think Carnage Hill. Hope it's not closing down too.

Little blue airplane just got sold, the yard looks real strange without it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Diving at night is absolutely awesome.

I started big green today since it hasn't been ran for a while. I turned it on, let it idle, revved it a bunch, etc, turned it off, then it started pissing coolant out of the water pump or the lower hose going to the pump, not sure. Either way, really weird, and that is the official death of it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Got any pictures there, Markass?

Bummer about green Jeep. I started McJeep up today and did a reverse burnout out of the garage then drove it into my YJ's plow. No carnage report though
