Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

just got back from working on the jeep for an hour and a half or so...

tcase skid is off, front driveshaft is off, rear wheels are off. i also met the carpenter whose shop is next door.

i need: ziplock baggies and a sharpie to label all the hardware
new safety glasses, rust and mud falling in my face sucks

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

oh yeah i also need another 30mm socket for the tcase drain, since my old one was another of the tools stolen a few months back

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i think i'm cutting up a stock x-member... still not sure.

I know this was "So 7 hours ago..." but don't do this, it really is a waste of time. I built a crossmember in about an hour out of 2x6x1/4" wall rect. tube. I used a stock crossmember and marked the tranny mount holes really well on the rect. tube, then drilled them with a "pilot bit" all the way through both sides of the 2x6 tube. I used a 1-1/4" hole saw and drilled the access holes for the tranny mount bolts, then drilled the actual tranny mount bolt holes to the correct size. I then cut the ends of the 2x6 at an angle (like this- \__________/ ) to open up access to the frame mounts, marked the frame mount holes and drilled them, then bolted it up!! It could be done with a piece of 2x8 as well.

This WILL put the tranny up about 1/4" higher (which makes things pretty tight between the tranny and tranny tunnel), but it is very simple to make some quick 1/4" plates to put in at the frame mounts to get it back to factory specs.

I sat the whole Jeep on that crossmember a few times, and it didn't even move!!

adjustable wrench. it's not like it needs to get torqued to anything real.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i started to make one out of that over the summer and realized i was in over my head at the time. i cut into the tubing (dumb me, i know) and weakened it a lot. we'll see...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Good news

So talked to Bob today (after being annoying the past week) and he said we should have time to get the axle out tomorrow night.

Bad news

I need a diff cover. Mark is giving me his old stock one for now (thanks Mark!), but I'm going to order another Ruffstuff ASAP.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Just took the comanche out for a 15 minute drive and the radiator decided to stop leaking but it overheats enough that what little is left to leak out comes out as steam and escapes out of the front of the truck when I come to a stop.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread
