Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread
That works 'cause you got a cafe at work.
I'd have to drive 6min to get to a local sub place or a little chinese food place. Both of which I'd walk out at least $8 poorer for "basic" lunches.
If I had a cafeteria like you describe I'd eat there too.
WTF kinda chinese place doesn't have cheap lunch specials? That's like a staple of the industry.
I compromise in a few ways:
- I go out for lunch every day, but usually bring it back to the office to eat, and never buy a soda/driink. I keep a case of soda under my desk because $4/12 cans is way better than that extra dollar or two at the restaurant.
- I drink a bottle of water on the way in, but other than that, when I do drink water at work (a rare occurance) it's either from the water cooler or straight from the tap. I don't understand bringing multiple bottles of water; the tap ain't gonna kill you, this isn't mexico. If I could convince myself to wake up 30 seconds earlier I'd probably just fill up a water bottle on the way out the door.
- I only eat breakfast one or two days a week...if I do, I'll usually put it off til 10 AM or so and that's good enough to hold me over til dinner with a snack or two in between.
- $5-$7 is the average I'll spend. Once in a while I'll treat myself to something real good, other times I'll just grab a frozen pizza from the grocery store down the street for $3.50 and make it in the microwave here.
A few other things keep me from making lunch every day: I'd rather sleep, I crave variety, and I live by myself. I don't keep any dairy or perishable stuff at home because it'll go bad before I use it all. A loaf of bread (white only, please, grainy stuff is gross) would be green & moldy before I finished it because I don't eat sandwiches that often. 3.5 lbs of pulled pork is great for the first day, pretty good on the second day, then it gets shelved for the rest of the week because I want something different. I'm a picky little bitch like that.
Dinner I'll make something at home (frozen stuff usually, mac & cheese sometimes (deluxe = no milk & butter required), probably more grilling soon), or we'll split a pizza at the shop or something.
Basically, what it comes down to is my eating habits are a) very consistent and b) not a significant contributor to my daily expenses.
